Oil Smoke on start up - 987 2.7

Hi,

I have a 987 2.7 registered in May 06 with about 10k on the clock. Doesn't use any oil but the last couple of times I have started it up from cold after standing for a few days the I have noticed a significant cloud of blue smoke in my rear view mirror. Doen't do it when warm or if only been standing for a day or so.

Question is - is this normal or is it an indicator of a potential problem. I am concerned that any significant oil burn doesn't help the cats.

Any help would be appreciated before I speak to my OPC.

Many thanks

Nick

Hi this is normal with all flat six porsche engines, or any flat cylinder engine. What happens is that oil tends to sit on top of the cylinders and when you start the engine it burns off what ever oil is on there, nothing to worry about. There are plenty of posts on this forum about this if you do a search. My 2.5 does this all the time when its been left over night.
