Oil temp gauge.??

Big Dave

Hi Chaps.
Im looking at fitting a oil temperature gauge to my S2.
I want to monitor the oil temp on track days...
I was contemplating fitting a second OR larger oil cooler as i feel the oil is getting faily hot whilst on track in the warm summer months...+ the oil viscosity is reducing, resulting in lower oil pressure...

Has any of you folk done this,??
Any pointers or tips as to how + why...etc..

Is there a oil temp sender on the engine somewhere that i could plug a gauge to..???

I did it. I got a temp sender through a group buy on Rennlist. Basically it is a modified sump plug with a threaded hole in it and a VDO (I think) sensor screwed in.

For the cooler I got Pirtek to make me up hoses to go from the original oil cooler fittings to a Mocal thermostat and much bigger oil cooler I got through a local motorbike hosing specialist. I mounted the cooler behind the centre section of the PU using an angled piece of aluminium as a "shelf" mounted across the points where the a/c condenser used to be. Porsche use non-standard connections so Pirtek cut mine pff and used them on the new hoses I think (that could have only applied to the fuel hoses - I forget).

Hi Dave,
I'm in the process of doing exactly the same thing. The guys at RPM Porsche have had a sender put into a sump plug for me so on the next oil change we'll fit it. I found a really neat VDO gauge that looks in keeping with the rest of the dials and this will probably be put where the cubby hole was when I get around to it.
Best regards,
Peter.

The KISS oil cooler kit does exactly what it says on the tin. I've got one in WUF. It fitted perfectly first time. Also available from Lindsey Racing.

Recommended. I get about 10 deg C drop with it.

This'll be the kit that uses a Mocal oil cooler produced in Britain, which is sent to the states for Lindsey Racing to put together into a kit for them to send it back to the UK? [;)]

Interesting thought, I have a redundant (brand new) oil cooler sitting in my shed. Perhaps I should slap it on Beaky.

Personally I don't really like the idea of an additional cooler with no thermostat. Too cold is also bad as is too hot.
