OIL TEMPERATURE FLUCTUATING

Hi All. Some advice please. Took the Porsche to my mates in Essex this morning--MY06 C2 coupe--Detailed his Ferrari F360, but thats another story!!. On the A12 I noticed that the Oil temp was just over 90 (70mph), BUT when I put some load on the engine (75-80mph) the temp would go to around 100. This would happen quickly and also drop back quickly when I eased off. I have read that the oil temp should be steady--like the water termp, which by the way is always at 80.
The coolant level is OK and I have just changed the oil, I use Millers XFS 5-40. I know that the long service intervals can let some fluids denegrate--could it be that the coolant is not doing its job--could it be the water thermostat, or maybe the Oil Temp sensor. Any advice would be very helpful. Thanks.

Nick,
It seems fairly normal for the oil temp to vary within the amounts you mention. Certainly on track when pushing hard I've seen the oil temp up around 110 which then quickly falls back during the cool down lap. If the water is steady at 80, which they all seem to be(!), I don't think there is much cause for alarm.

Thanks TSC. Do you think I should get the cooling fluids changed anyway. I'm 6 months away from the two year service interval. I'm just worried that Porsche AG have over extended the service intervals to gain favour. I change the oil every six months!!!! Nick

I don't think fully synthetic oil needs to be changed any more frequently than the stated intervals - but that's your choice! There is no oil thermostat and the oil temp just varies depending on how hard the car is being driven - I believe it is water cooled via an oil/water heat exchanger. I also don't see any value in changing the cooling fluid, which is mostly water after all and it would appear that the coolant is indeed "doing it's job"![;)]
If in doubt a quick call to your local, friendly Porsche Centre should put your mind at rest if you're in any doubt though.
