Oil Temperature Gauge Removal?

Hello 993'ers,

I have an intermittent fault with my oil temerature gauge which seems to work (mostly) in warm weather but hibernates during the colder weather (does not move off cold/rest). It is time to get it fixed!

Can someone tell me how to remove the instruments i.e. are they a push-fit (I seem to feel they are) or are they fixed somehow? Anything else I nshoudl know before attempting this?

Also, once removed, I plan to send the instrument to Speedy Cables (http://www.speedycables.com/) to have them rebuild/refurbish the it. Has anyone any experience of having done this?

The car is a 993S so the insruments have a silver grey fiunish to the edge of the dial so a replacement instrument seems a long shot.

Thanks

Robert

They just pull straight out, probably need a pair of rubber gloves to get a grip and just twist back and fro a bit as you pull its just the rubber surround holding them in. If you use an implement like a large flat bladed screw driver make sure you protect the dashboard as it will dent.

Regarding instrument repair I've used REAP Automotive Design ask for Julien 02088632305 in Harrow to do all my 964 instruments and know that Porsche GB use them for refurbishment and repairs.

Oil temp gauge successfully removed.

I will give Julien a call @ REAP Automotive Design.

Thanks for your help.
