oil usage

On a 60k mile 996 ('98), what is the typical oil usage rate per 1000 miles?

I never ever had to top up the oil between changes (which I did every 6000 miles) on my '98 C2 with 86000 on the clock. Having said that, the figure that Porsche consider as high oil consumption (for a 3.6) is 1.5litres/1000km, which I would have thought would be one that is smoking like a chimney. Isn't there a similar figure quoted in the drivers handbook?

What oil are you using? If you have high consumption, maybe consider a thicker approved oil.

Thanks Richard, consumption so far is fine but was just trying to get a feel for what I can expect based on other similar mileage motors.

Mike,

Mine's a 56K mile, 2000 model and, like richard, would give the answer of 'negligable'.

Mine has done 94.000 miles now . I have used one litre in 40,000 miles , it just doesn't burn oil.

Hi Mike, Ive done about 6K miles since my last service in Feb, doesn't appear to have used any oil at all (its still on max when you dip after about 10 mins after a thorough warm up)- I use mobil 1 0W-40 if thats of any use.
