Oil usage

I have a 05 C2 tip which had approx 11,000 miles on the clock when I bought it 18 months ago and in that time I have done a further 11,000 miles. I regularly check the automatic oil readout on the flat when the car has rested for 30 mins or so and it constantly reads full. I read about other drivers having to put oil in their cars and wonder why I do not. I can not reassure myself by checking manually. Is this usage normal?
 
I have a 1 year old 997S with 6000 miles. It used 400 ml in the first 1000 miles and has used none since, it always reads to the top of the highest full segment, not quite the top of the gauge.

If it is parked on a slope, front to back, side to side, it gives different readings, either totally full or lower, but is always the same on level ground so I assume the gauge is OK.

The car should have been serviced at 20,000 miles and if it was the oil would have been changed and topped-up at that time. Most of these engines do use some oil, mine averages about 4,000 miles/litre (Porsche say anything better than 1,000km/litre is within spec). There are a number of explanations why this is the case but I've just started reading a technical history of Porsche which attributed high oil consumption on early flat 4, 356, engines to the asymmetrical design of the piston which led to an off-centre loading; I haven't read as far as the water cooled engines yet.

Another point to bear in mind is the handbook provided explanation of seemingly low to zero consumption followed by an apparent surge in usage after a period of prolonged high temperature operation - during short-run operations moisture builds up in the oil masking any oil consumption, then during high temperature use the water vapour is driven off and the true oil level is subsequently revealed.
 
I have a C2Tip which had 19.5k miles on it. It has just had a major service at 23.8k but had no oil added during the 4300 miles. Don't worry, I would say your car is typical.
 
My 997s used a litre every 1000 miles initially, and there was white smoke on start up on standing with blackened n/s exhaust tip. Dealer took engine out and found scored bore in number six due to faulty ring. New engine and only added 1 litre in last 15000 miles.
Good point about water in oil - if you use your car for a lot of short trips the oil can suddenly drop aftert a decent blast, not because you are using that much more at high speed, but because the water boils off. Another reason why short trips and low mileage can often be harder on an engine.
