I have a 944s 16v the car has done 158k miles but had a full rebuild 10k ago including new rings, the other day I started the car and the "engine oil" red light stays on along with the large red exclamation light, this tells me there is little oil BUT the oil pressure is at 5bar running and 3bar tick over, the oil on the dip stick reads 3/4 full? Is it a sender fault? If so where is the sender situated so I can change it thanks, engine runs smooth no noises or tapping thanks

Hi,
I had a 6 series BMW that did this and it was a oil pressure light sender fault, replaced the sender all OK thankfully

Its a level alert, rather than a fault warning. When the light comes on as it should the car will only need a top up.

Theyre particularly sensitive too, so parking facing slightly uphill will frequently be enough to activate it when you restart.

+1 for what Simon says! Sure there's a song about that. Anyway mine came on last night on a slight incline. The dipstick showed exactly half way. Also more prone to showing if you've started it up soon after switching off as oil not fully settled.

It is an engine oil level light. It tends to come on as the car comes towards the minimum (the light for me came on when the oil went to a 1/3rd of the way between the min and max).

All sorted thanks to Simon topped it up and no light on! Your right they are very sensitive will an eye out in future thanks
