Oil Warning

89 Turbo SE
I'm getting the oil warning light come on. If it comes on when I start the car from cold then it stays on along with the centre red exclamation light but if it doesn't come on from cold start then it stays off?? Obviously I turn off the engine when the light comes on.
The oil pressure gauge shows 5 whatever the light does.
Sounds like wiring or sensor - what do you think and where is the sensor any way?

I know this is a stupid question, but have you checked the oil level? If so, where does it read on the dipstick?

The warning light is operated by a simple float switch, so it's possible that it's become gummed up with sludge over the years. The problem is, it's in the sump, so not that easy to get to.

I had it fail on my S2 cab and i know others have also - S2s mainly though, but I assume it's the same in the Turbo.

It's the oil level sender in the sump. If it gives a false reading at startup then the light stays on until you turn the ignition off. Replace the sender is the only fix.

That is assuming there is plenty oil in the car as James says, of course!
