OIL !!!

Have a look here for some detailed advice, it's a topic that's been discussed a few times in this section too, although more commonly about turbos.

Don't use 0w/40 it is too light for our older engines and will find its way through potential seal gaps and cause leaks.

I run 5w40 with no leaks and minimal consumption (unless on a track day) so our engines are capable of running thinner oils. I guess it's a case of suck it and see and whatever works for you, peoples choices and experiences are wide and varied. I personally want to run the thinnest oil I can get away with to provide optimal protection, especially cold start protection as my car is my daily runner.

10W40 semi, from a Vauxhall dealers.

Why? It's very high spec, and very cheap.

I'm a big fan of changing oil often (you CANNOT change your oil too frequently in my book), so it's all out every 5000 miles. (Which reminds me, it's time I did it again.)

Since I got the turbo, I have been using 5/30 or 5/40 for top-ups, it appears to use quite a lot, but I'm guessing thats either because a) I have an oil leak (think that is highly probable), b) viscosity is too thin or c) turbos use oil?. I'm going to go back to 15/40 or 15/50 at the next oil change.
