Oil

My 2007 997 C2S is giving me some very strange oil readings before I start the engine.

When cold sometimes it shows 4 bars, and on the same level sometimes shows 1.

Any ideas? Is there any cause for me to worry? Should I take the car to an OPC for a 'health check' - I have an extended warranty.

Have you tried doing readings when the oil is hot Julian? From memory if you have warmed it up, switch off let it stand for a bit and then switch on it will tell you how long you have to wait before it will do a check? Probably worth trying to see if the readings are consistent or variable, as in the case when it's cold. Don't think there's anything to be alarmed about as long as the oil pressure and temperature look ok though.

Oops!

Apologies, I'm new to this.... guess I'd best remove the post!

If I knew how!
Oh well.....

I did wonder why I could not find a dipstick [8|].

I think that I shall try again, have a drive around, let the engine cool down and see what the indication is before taking any further steps.

hi,

i have a 2005 c2s. Lat night my car had been sitting for approx 4 hours and i checked the oil level. It read about just over half full which was alarming as in the morning it was at the highest level.

This morning i cheked it again and it was at the very lowest point. I moved my car and looked for an oil leak but there hadnt been one.

I have tried it a couple of times now and it is just over half full so it seems fine.
Possibly just a temporary computer glitch.

Any thoughts?

I am having much the same problem and have assumed that it is something to do with the senitivity of the system.

It could be a faulty sensor but the first thing you will be told is to make sure you check it in the same place if comparing.
I'm lucky that my drive is flat and I check it when there, Its seems pretty consistant for me.. as in uses oil when I expected it too etc..

I only use my car for the fun factor and days/trips out, but it uses about a litre of oil per 2K miles
I know some people have never had to top up!!
