Sacrifice the hose? Then take the tank to Alan D who must have seen the problem a hundred times...

I feel for you Paul... if you do resort to sacrificing the hose you may find the nut on the other end doesn't want to release from the (rather delicate and expensive) aluminium thermostat housing. The steel nut can corrode to the aluminium housing, and wont come undone without careful cutting and splitting. Mine wouldn't budge, but luckily in my case, it was the nut that had seized to the steel oil pipe and preventing it from turning. Fortunately once the oil pipe was cut through the nut came undone from the thermostat easily. If you end up replacing the pipe I hope yours goes okay. In preperation I had used lots of penetrating oil over a number of days and had been tapping the nut with a hammer at a slightly undoing angle on the nut flats to help persuade both the oil to penetrate and for the nut to start to surrender into undoing.

Yeah, don't you just love these cars? I've just finished replacing all four shocks, not without grief, head scratching , genuine blood, some sweat and tears. Some joker called Wayne Dempsey suggested it was a 3 hour job. I did think about covering his book in butter and posting it back with a diagram showing where to stick it ! Ok so I thought I'd tackle a few easy jobs l.e new dizzy cap and rotor arm...can't get the bloody rotor arm off.............Oh well it's a "Porker" ....
( no wonder that's also a pet name for a Pig! )

Great 'how to' write up on Impact Bumpers Graham, you kept me occupied during our crossing from France yesterday. Maybe you should post it on here under its own topic - or even put an article together for PP...
