Old Car Petition

I was mooching through some of the other forums on the site and found this on the 928 forum. I realise that the Boxster is not an old car, but there are proposals in place to ban cars older than 10 years. Personally I think this stinks of the car manufacturers putting pressure on government to get us to but new cars. Anyway the post is below, and if you want the Boxster to ever attain classic car status I should sign it:-

Just discovered that there is a consultation/proposal at UK/EU level to restrict and/or ban the use of older (10 years plus) cars. There is already a petition to the British Prime Minister to reject such proposals. Might I suggest that many of us (not just in the 928 section) might be affected and therefore might consider signing? Just when I was beginning to enjoy my car.....

The Boxster is in it's 11th year - so this is very relevant [&:]

And it's as likely to happen as me becoming Pope! [8D]

No more classic vehicles and all the infrastructure that supports them?

And Berlin is banning old cars - I watched coverage of yesterdays Berlin protests on the TV last night - with old Trabants, Porsche's, X1/9's etc all supporting "old" cars.

If it ever happens here I'll eat my owners manual. [:D]
I've got several owners manuals I'd be eating as the cars the belong to would have just been crushed!!!

I'd be very surprised if this would happen - I can somewhat see an argument on road safety grounds, but the environmental impact of this ban would be incredible and as we all know if there's one thing on new labours agenda higher than persecuting motorists its persecuting everyone in the name of the environment.

In fact, I propose the opposite - in order to be able to buy a new car you need to exchange one that is at least 10 years old and have 150,000 on the clock - just to make sure we got full environmental benefit from the build of the car [;)]

They have a similar scheme to this in Singapore for a lot of years now. Even an old car there is worth more just to buy the right to be mobile via a Certificate of Entitlement. Lets hope it doesn't come here any time soon!

I dont really fancy an owners manual right now just had a chineese, BUT SHOW ME WHERE TO SIGN I WILL SIGN and modern cars are impersonal and characterless although the new bmw has had me winking at it on the telly i do love a german.....

Just imagine what a difference it would make to the Goodwood Festival of Speed - no noisy, pre catalyst cars - just the silent, bland, "sharing the same platform" , cars (Porsche excepted of course!). What would Charlie say if he could not drive his Aston Martin to Polo, or HM and her car fleet.
I think they should try to ban all those public transport vehicles more than 10 years old first - they probably pollute a lot more than the private motorist ! [:D]
