Older 911 or newer Cayman?

I wonder if anyone can help me with this dilemma. Coming up to retirement and will be looking to trade in my Boxster, the question is what for, a newer Cayman or an older 911. I love the 911 look but I will looking at 2002-3 models, C2 or C4? or does it make more sense to buy a newer car, would there be fewer issues?

You cant do better than a 3.2 with a G50 gearbox a real drivers car much more enjoyable than a C2/C4 and as everybody knows its the eternal ICON

I traded in my 2002 996 C2 for a dealer demonstrator 2008 Cayman 2.7. I loved the look and the power of the older car, but as it approached six years old and 100k miles, it was becoming a little troublesome. In particular, it was getting through window regulators at an alarming rate, and as the CPO warranty was about to expire I was becoming nervous about RMS issues resurfacing.
So far the Cayman has been very reliable over 4 years I've had it, and I like the handling and ride a lot better than the 996. The dual boot is also a nice bonus...
Feel free to PM with any specific questions

If its as a toy and not an everyday. I would go 911 Air-cooled.

Any of the pre water cooled 911 ie 993 and earlier would ring my bell. Every time yo get it out of the garage to drive is an event![:)]

But then its your choice - not mine!

P.S. Also buying the correct model/mileage Air-cooled model with history could also be an investment[;)]

low mileage 993`s are still around 20-early 20`s .also unless you have great pension plan you may well have some bills with the older car-i certainly did-but didnt matter to me !!

why not go with a newer boxster-i love my 3.4 S and you could get a newish one for early 20`s and still have 2 boots[:D]

Yeh I could, but I've had enough of soft tops now, I do like the idea of two boots, but also like the idea of a larger cabin space of the 996/3.

2003 911 v Cayman

Buy a 2.7 or 2.9 Cayman! I had them all....... [:D]

The Cayman handles better and is more economical. If you want performance, buy an S. I prefer PDK, but you might not. It does take 1000 miles to get used to.

The 911 feels beefier and has 2 little rear seats, but do you need them? I prefer two boots.

you must of course go on a long drive in both-but having had a 996C4S before a cayman s in my opinion the cayman was styreets ahead in terms of handling and up to date feel-it left the 996 just feeling dated-go further back and the 993 doesnt feel dated-just classic-and that lovely air cooled engine [:D]

but sounds like you NEED a cayman!!

Must admit to a certain amount of bias but I'd say Cayman preferably an S, I've been tempted with various 911's but usually after driving found I preferred the other Porsches although I do still fancy a 993 but wouldn't change the Cayman S for one, it would have to be a second car.

I've driven a 993 cabriolet but it didn't measure up to the Boxster S and so now, being used to driving the Cayman S for nearly 5 years I'd probably just trade and get a Gen 2 Cayman S or R. But then, I'm not really considering a change at present.

Had one clot in a supermarket car park say ( as the wife came up with a second trolley ) "bet you wish you'd got a proper car", you should have seen the look on his face as I opened the rear boot.[:D]

Yes, I had fun with my Caymans. Enthusiastic boys asked to see the engine. So I opened the front boot, only to exclaim 'Oh, silly me, I forgot the engine is in the back'. So I opened the tail gate to exclaim, 'Cripes, someone has stolen my engine!'

Now what was it that Dyllan said???? [:D]
