Can someone settle an arguement?
What is the oldest known 911 registered in the UK.
My mate reckons that there is a D (1965) registered one in Wiltshire.
I reckon that it is a 912. Didn't they precede the 911?

The earliest is, I believe, MMU 911C which (if memory serves me correctly) is with an independant Porsche specialist in Birmingham way - she is a 1965 car. All the 253 1964 manufactured cars were LHD and I'm not aware of any coming to the UK through 'official' channels - although I believe there may be one or two now resident in the UK.

GVB 911D was one of the first and campaigned sucessfully by the likes of Vic Elford etc. She started life as a 130bhp 2.0tr but was upgraded to 160bhp 'S' spec by AFN with factory support - she occaisionally comes out to play.

LGK 6D is another survivor I used to own - the fifth 911 in the UK. I know she changed hands earlier this year. Finished in Heron Grey. She is a '65 car by chassis number (from memory!) and I never got to the bottom of why she was registered as a 'D' '66 car.

I own LYV 10D which is a September 1966 (manufactured for the 1967 'S' model year introduction) and I believe is the earliest registered UK 911S - although I do know of another earlier RHD by chassis number but she was not imported until 1967 and given the index NAC 199E.

Porsche UK (then AFN as the concessionaire) generally registered press cars as 'xxx 911x' during the early years - I have OYT 911F which is the earliest Sporto in the UK and believed to possibly be the earliest RHD Sporto having been a research car.

Suffix registrations ran from the beginning of the year until the end of the year for 'A', 'B', 'C' and 'D' - 1967 being the year of change where there were two letters - 'E' and 'F'.

A 01 February 1963 31 December 1963
B 01 January 1964 31 December 1964
C 01 January 1965 31 December 1965
D 01 January 1966 31 December 1966
E 01 January 1967 31 July 1967
F 01 August 1967 31 July 1968

Hope this helps

Philip
