just read with interest the fact that you can have the on board computer option retro fitted to a 996 for £ 120.00 +vat.
Anybody had it done ? I would be interested in getting this done for my car 99c4

3.2SSE must sell !

Yes - that's my car in the photo you have probably seen on the Wrightune web site. What do you need to know? The switch system is the simplest form, and doesn't give you the speed gong feature, but who wants that? It's pretty useless as it's so quiet. I only changed mine to the stalk when I retrofitted cruise control and bought a 4-way stalk.

It takes about an hour or hour and a half to fit the switch system. It's very simple to operate - you just press the 'mode' side of the switch to toggle the option you want to select, and press the 'reset' side to reset that option when you want to. You can do it yourself cheaper, but you need a PST2 computer to code the instrument cluster to make it work. Depends where you are in E Sussex, but about 2 hours to Wallingford. HTH.

I had mine fitted by wrightune, works fine, even gave me some good news that day (Travelling back to tamworth from oxford in very bad rain at 50 all the way - managed 36mpg! I was shocked) but the fitting was simple, and lookin at all the info on renn and here could be done yourself - but involved removing trim and instrument cluster which can go very wrong and result in the need to buy new trim

he also plugged in the diagnostic to activate it, and showed me that there were no serious fault messages showing!

dont expect a massive workshop though (coffee was ok though) and he didnt give ea PCGB discount!

Heres a question....

996 with PCM1 fitted. Has the obc as part of the unit but not on a stalk etc.

Can this be fitted to mine?

Yes, you can fit the stalk to give you the display in the bottom of the rev counter. The owners manual shows what info you would get.

Thats interesting.

I wonder how it would work in conjunction with the PCM unit I have. Would they be totally independent with different displays being controlled individually or would controlling one effect the other.

I might explore this when it next goes in for a service.

The two won't be connected and will operate independently. They read the same data from the CAN bus, but the OBC info is processed in the instrument cluster, completely separately from the PCM.
