On-Line Database

Hi All

As was launched in the June issue of Porsche Post, the 3.2 Carrera on-line database is now up and running.

Access to the database is ONLY via the register pages on the club website.

Please register and/or check your car details. Passwords will prevent initial access to information so please contact the administrator Anthony Shuker for your password.

Information on usage and security is all in the June Porsche Post.

Regards

Tony Corlett
Register Secretary

It appears from the title that this is for Supersports only - is there something for Carerra 3.2 or is the title 'and' Supersport?

Thanks

Hi,

No problem logging in, but all I have found for the past 4 months is a page saying.

"COMING SHORTLY"

Is it up and running, or not ?

Bob
When Tony Corlett put that note on it was on the old club site, and the new site has not been up dated with the information needed.
I think the idea was that all the registers would have a online database but I may be wrong, so until that happens I think you will see Coming Shortly

What is the problem in getting the register up and running?

As a new member and new Carrera 3.2 owner I was full of enthusiasm and wanted to get the details of my car registered but so far this has proved impossible.

I no longer work in IT but with over 20yrs experience I still have a lot of contacts and offered to put the guy at the club who looks after this in touch with someone to assist, but no reply.

I am not at all impressed with the website.

I get the feeling that everything has been "coming soon" for an awful long time.

As a new member I have to say the membership is far more expensive than other car clubs I am a member of. The club HQ looks very swanky and the magazine is very glossy (unnecessarily so ?). Does the club employ full time staff ?

I'm a little disappointed in the club so far, it took several weeks for them to process my application, my bank had stopped my card because of potential unauthorised transactions and when I gave them new card details I was told that they could only take the payments once a week !

Then I receive my letter encouraging to enter details of my car on the register only to find this is impossible.

Hopefully my disappointment will be lifted when I start to attend some events.

Still love my Carrera though

Very true, I am even coming to terms with the rather charming G15 box

I know I'm a bit of a grumpy git and somewhat impatient but .......

enjoy your car, the club is second to your enjoyment it`s what you are prepared to put into the club that maters
I know you may be grumpy but [:D][:D] they are all unpaid that run this site

Is yours an early carrera like mine? If so it's a 915 box, designed by Porsche. The G boxes are Getrag although that may just be the synchro's.

Want to have some fun at the Snetterton track day? 11/11/08

Hi All

Why not contact the Reg Sec Charles Marsland and Anthony Shuker they should be able to help.

Please remember that the new Board have inherited a whole lot of trouble and it is taking time to sort out. And they are all volunteers.

Have fun

In reply to Nathan

It's an 86 one of the very last few with the G15 box
The car is in fantastic condition with very low mileage and I just don't know if I fancy taking it on a track day

In reply to Paul

I didn't realise there was a new board or that they had inherited problems - It's a thankless task trying to run a club at times - I didn't appreciate everyone was volunteers, even the staff st the club HQ ?

My irritation was due mainly to the fact that I am so enthusiatic about my new toy and wanted to enter the details on the Register. I was just being a sulking kid really.

I've just purchased the 3.2 Carrera book by Tony Corlett - what an excellent book !

Sorry for the late reply, just got back from a holiday which gave me time to read all of that 3.2 carrera book.

You have a 915 transmission like my 3.2 carrera does.

I've owned my 3.2 ten years now and think it may be safer on a safely ran trackday than driving it on the public road [:D]

I also feel I am a 'custodian' of the car.

Nothing is as good as a 3.2 carrera, not even the club [:D]

Hi my name is Marco
I am a new member here, I am Portuguese and I like Porsches, principally air cooled motors. I heard that 3.2 Carrera is the best of all, an indestrutible motor in spite of to have some escape of oil, loose oil to the floor, it is a problem that it affects all air cooled motors , isn t it ? what is your opinion about the best car we can buy, I heard England have left hand drive Porsches cheapest then right hand drive, is true ? thanks for your attention...cheers and sorry about my English, is no good...

They do tend to leak a little oil. Mine isn't too bad, it certainly doesn't smoke or anything while it's running. Oil is usually visible though on the bottom of the engine. I never need to top it up between oil changes.

Yes, the 3.2 engine is known for being bullet proof. I would say the biggest threat is people that do not understand them or maybe that simply do not care.
You have to be very careful when checking or changing the oil for instance. The oil on these engines is not filtered before the engine, only on the way out. Any particles put in to the oil tank will end up in the engine!

If only I could say the 915 gearbox is as good as the engine or the rest of the car...
