Hi Mark

Reading your Boxster book. Just bought a ctek conditioner. Your book talks about a cutout in the door to allow the cable when using a plug in cigarette lighter socket. can't see it anywhere - driver or passenger side? Can you tell me in detail where it is? its a 2007 987.

Cheers

The door seals are very soft and I've just laid mine flat over the sill but check under the door for clearance between hard surfaces, I found on my Cayman it was ok, some lay them through at the corners or leave the window down about 1/2 inch. Or, at the rear of the window.

I have the Porsche conditioner which doesn't need an adapter but as you are using the Ctek to plug into the lighter socket you'll use an adapter make sure you don't trap the connector.

Other then that, follow the instructions, one thing I've found is that it takes some time before the conditioner can be switched to the correct mode. From then ok.

Thanks for buying the book! [:)] Hope you are enjoying it.

As Dan says, there should be one each side... You should be able to see a small semi-circle cut out of the bottom edge of the door seal. Unless they've now removed it from 987/997 series cars...[&:]

If it's not there then Buddy's suggestions above should help.

Thanks all

Will have a closer look today! If not it seems its ok to lie against the seal with door closed on it. Can the alarm be active while conditioner in use?

I've had the alarm on while using the conditioner for weeks at a time and all is OK.

Having just washed my 987 I can confirm it is no longer there.

Note to self: Must add option to next order [:)]

it isn't there on a 987 as said. best place is to the back of the door where it curves. just make sure you leave a length of wire so you don't snag anything when you shut the door.

my car sits with the alarm on all locked up and the seal hasn't deformed at all.

Yeah, i looked and its definitely not there now. Thanks London987 when you say 'where it curves' is that back of the door at the bottom corner? Good to know can still use alarm. Thanks all for advice.

I used a Airflow conditioner when i owned a 1978 Ferrari 308 GTS which i had for 18 years in my garage. I found if i left the car for a period of 3 weeks the battery would be flat, i was advised by a club member fit a Varta battery and conditioner. I never looked back after that, i've used the same conditioner on my 3.2s 2002 manual which has only done 33K for over a year now. I have the passenger window slightly open for the cable.
Regards,
Martin

yes that's right - tends to knk the cable less. hope that helps!

I can confirm there is no cut out on a 987. (I spent ages looking for it). It was then I discovered the book referred to unfortunately does not cover the 987 very well at all.

I put the conditioner lead under the door near the front and so far have no seal deformations.

Thanks all

All set up now. Lowering window just enough to feed cable through. Installed shelf on garage wall next to passenger window to hold conditioner. CTEK XS 7000 working well! Ready for winter!

I tried [&o]

Perhaps if you could drop me an email via the PM link you could let me know where it fails the 987 so badly? I can try and get it covered better in any future edition.
For instance I had no idea the cut out was missing from some (all?) 987's - and had not even thought to look and see!
(To be honest the cut out on a 986 is not going to make a huge difference anyway - the seal is pliant enough).

However the book is 60-odd pages bigger than the publisher requested, so I'm not sure how much else can be shoehorned in [:D]
