One for the real train-spotters !

Just wondering whether the RS came with the same jack as the ordinary C2/C4, or whether it was a low-rise / lightweight equivalent. I'm pretty sure it's the same one, but would like to be sure. My new RS (more of which in due course.....) is missing the jack, the previous owner having left it at Brands some time earlier this year. I've ordered a replacement from Porsch-Apart, and then suddenly thought I should check whether I've bought the right thing !

thanks,

Jamie

Hi Jamie

My car was missing its jack when I bought it and it took me a while to get the right part number but there is one. I don't have the jack or the invoice now so can't check but I am sure it is on one of my earlier posts. What I found is that most (but not all) fit the RS ok but the RS one was noteably smaller than some of the others I had seen and been offered.

Check with the OPC to get a part number.

How is the car?

Regards

Thanks chaps,
I've got a new jack on the way from Porsch-Apart, so we'll just have to see what turns up. The part number is the same for 964 and 993, but dummy that I am, I forgot to ask them to check whether the RS part number is different (got to get used to this checking if the RS had a different part number mularky). Well if Mel is right and the thing is entirely unuseable anyway, then it doesn't really matter !!!!! The jack worked fine on my lowered C2, but granted I never tried to jack it up with a flat tyre. I'll have to come up with a clever idea for something I can stash in the car as a block / ramp to get enough clearance to use the jack if required. The previous owner just used to carry around a bloody big trolley jack under the bonnet - not exactly ideal !!! I've got my own trolley jack on its way from China as part of an enormous bulk-buy, but I still think it's important to have something in the car which one might be able to use in an emergency (and also for the sake of nerdy completeness !).
I still haven't actually got my grubby mitts on the car, despite having paid for it a fortnight ago. The car was still registered in Sweden (hence the rather natty 964 RS reg plate), so Tomas and I have been doing all of the tedious jumping through hoops with the DVLA to get a UK registration. Hopefully should get all the paperwork through this week and then can sort plates and the crucial resident's parking permit. If all goes to plan I'll be hitting Brands Hatch on Saturday for my first go ......... In the meantime the car is safely tucked up in an underground garage in Notting Hill. Getting bored waiting now ........................

Well isn't that just typical........ Having taken delivery of my new jack from Porsch-Apart I finally got my hands on my new car, and having a good rummage around wouldn't you know it, but the jack and handle were right there where they should be attached to the inside of the bumper panel. I now have no idea which jack the previous owner thought he left a Brands !!! I have a sneaking suspicion that he never ever lifted the carpet under the bonnet to see what was under it ! The jack and handle had clearly never been used. I just about managed to get the jack under the car - front was impossible without a bit of a gentle lift of the front wheel arch, but rear was ok for access.

Anyone want to buy a jack ?????????

Got a good hundred or so miles under the wheels at the weekend, so will post my initial thoughts on the car in due course, though as I was tip-toeing on pretty worn Cup tyres I haven't really had a chance to give it full beans yet. My very initial reaction, somewhat surprisingly, is that the RS is easier to drive (apart from the heavier steering) than my old C2 RS-clone. I think it has something to do with the extra torque from the Motec conversion, but the thing just floats along on the lightest of throttle, doesn't hunt, doesn't stall, and overall feels like a very well put together package. I think I'm going to be very happy with it ..............
