NORTH EAST EVENT 2005
Annual Event North East 2005 at RABY CASTLE
EVENT REPORT
This report is in reference to plans for the North East region of Porsche Club Great Britain, with the support of the Cumbrian and both Scottish regions to hold a joint regional event at Raby Castle in the County Durham area of the north of England on Sunday the 14th of August 2005 with a view to it becoming an annual event.
As the regional organiser of the North East I feel that it would be very beneficial to both the region, its neighbouring supporting regions and Porsche Club Great Britain as a whole to stage such an event in this part of the country and am keen to make this an annual event.
LOCATION
Raby castle is situated on the A688 and is easily accessible from the A1(M) and has excellent vehicular access at the front and rear of the grounds.
Having held similar events in the past I have been assured that the location is more than capable of hosting such an event.
Their toilet facilities and catering both mobile and fixed are more than adequate to deal with an event of this type and predicted size.
A provisional booking for the date in question has been made with Catherine Turnbull, the events coordinator at Raby Castle. Lord Barnard who resides at the castle has given his full backing to this proposed event.
EVENT COMMITEE
At this time I am being assisted by my two most enthusiastic members Alan Burton and Neill Hastie who in the past have organised trips and days out for our region, each has been given details to look at in the organising of this event.
JOINT REGIONAL ASSISTANCE
Both Scottish regions and Cumbria have confirmed they will support this event in their numbers as a North of England event although at this time their assistance will be kept to a minimum whilst the general details are ironed out at a local level, as I am more than confident that our committee is more than capable of making this event a reality.
I fear that to many organisers at this early stage would lead to unnecessary complications and confusion, however they will be kept up to date on a monthly basis and their ideas and views considered and their assistance requested in the finer details as the organising progresses.
EVENT SET UP
The plan is to have a central show ground containing regional parking for those regions involved surrounding an arena that will stage the events concours competition. To the outer edges of the ground would be specific traders stalls invited to the event who specialise in Porsche accessories, memorabilia and clothing.
Estimated numbers at this time are between 200 and 400 cars and including members of the public somewhere in the region of 800 to 1000 people will be present on the day, staff confirm they frequently deal with these numbers of people comfortably when similar events are held.
Specialist cars of Malton have confirmed they would fully support this event with a display of exotic Porsches and vehicles available for sale as well as a full Zymol display and demonstration and would also sponsor the concours with trophies.
Gmund books are interested in having a stall as is the magazine 911 & Porsche world, I would also ask that the club shop be available for members to purchase club memorabilia and I would also actively promote club membership to those interested.
Club registers would be invited to attend and display their machines either side of the main drive up to the Castle itself, as this is an ideal location.
As well as the Porsches on display the site will have plenty of other attractions, such as the grounds, walled garden, carriage collection and woodland adventure playground for the children, not to mention the 14th century castle and the surrounding parkland, which is home to two herds of Red and Fallow deer.
CONCOURS DETAILS
The committee feels that it would be a good idea to arrange the concours as a back to basics show and shine competition where those wishing to take part display their vehicles in the arena provided with judging taking the shape of every Porsche owner at the event being handed a judging form as they enter the grounds which they, at their leisure complete during the day as they view the Porsches entered and mark accordingly. At the end of the day a total will be calculated with winners and runners up in each of the classes (air cooled, water cooled, visitors etc) being awarded their trophies.
The committee believes this type of competition will create new interest and attract those members who would not usually enter concours.
COSTS
The entry charges will be as follows:
PCGB MEMBERS Adult Child(5-15) Over 60
Park and Gardens £3.50 £2.50 £3.00
Castle,
