'One off' misfire and warning light

I seem to have been afflicted by some problems with my 2004 C4 recently ( 65k miles) :(

First, I suffered a failure of a steering hose 6 weeks ago- Romans of St Albans replaced both hoses under warranty as a precaution but I had to pay labour!

2 weeks ago the water pump failed- needed recovery to PSR Automitive in Bishops Stortford who fixed it quickly but kept it in their workshop for a few days due to the adverse weather. Collected it one week ago.

2 days ago we were pulling out of a junction and it misfired, then the 'Drive to Workshop' indicator turned on. It cleared within about two hundred yards, then happened again at the next roundabout. When I had a chance, I turned the engine off for a few minutes, then resumed my journey. Since then I've done another 100 miles and there have been no recurrences.

Should I be concerned? Is this likely to be an electronic/sensor glitch or do I have a coil pack on the way out?

If you got the message under heavy acceleration, it may be the MAF sensor on the way out. A diagnostic check should tell you what it is, as it will have recorded a fault in the DME module.

Thanks Richard.

It was only light acceleration- in fact I think it came close to stalling as I pulled away (before the misfire happened!) as the road was pretty greasy!

I had a smimlar problem - happened only when the roads were wet - usually after the car had been heavily rained on. A quick check of the computer revealed misfiring on cylinders 2 and 6 ihn mu case. The answer was to replace the ignition coils. I think the total I paid for the work & parts was around £375 - has not re-occurred since

Well, it's a week on now, and I've driven 300 miles in dry, wet, through a flood and at various speeds/acceleration and no recurrence of the misfire or warning light.

I'll keep an eye on it, but hopefully it was a temporary electrical gremlin!

Had exactly the same problem last week after 48hrs of rain. Misfire, yellow light, cleared after 50 miles, slight unevenness to tickover when cold. Car went to OPC yesterday, was coil pack breaking down due to moisture ingress. Item replaced, no further problems. Luckily covered by warranty.

It's now over 3 weeks since it happened to me, and there has been absolutely no recurrence. I've driven through all types of weather including heavy standing water and not a hint of trouble.

Hopefully a one-off but I'm still keeping a watch out!

I would say its a coil pack on its way out. They see a lot of bad weather and are very susceptible giving grief. I had cylinder 4 playing up during the snowy weather. I had it cleared diagnostic pc all ok now for the time being.
Regards, Dave the gas.
