Right, it's 9:07, the sun is up, its nice and warm, time to fit something shiny [:D]

....back in 30 mins [:)]

OK the old one is off and like all British exhaust fitters I'm now having a tea break [8|]

It's MUCH heavier than the new Stainless Steel one [&:]

Ok the new one is on. It was only 6 bolts in total and some gasket sealant, two of the bolts needed a little persausion to seat properly [;)] but it was very easy. The old one came off very easily as it had only been on there a month and all the bolts were new and still greased.

This is a Dansk stainless steel rear box from Bert Gear at www.berlyn-services.co.uk £140 + the usual for an '89 Turbo

I'm off to work out my bill now. Let me see (intake of breath), 90 mins at £30 an hour (shaking of head), plus consumables...... that will be £100 sir [:D].

It is a little bit more rorty, but only very slightly. It's not sold as a 'sports' box but a direct replacement for the original.

I have to admit I've always been confused as to how silencers work. I shone a torch up the end of the pipe and you can see straight through the rear box and into the pipe the other side. The rear box is about half the size of the original one (hence the weight saving), so how does it manage to quieten things down? I started the engine when the rear box was off

VVROOOOM [:D] but not exactly neighbourhood friendly [;)]

Was it easy fit ?

Yes very easy. There are four bolts connecting the back box to the cat section with a crush ring gasket in between and two bolts holding the tailpipe to the underside of the car. All my bolts were new 4 weeks ago so they came off very easily, the only slight issue I had was one of the front 4 bolts did not line up absolutely mm perfect so it had to be 'persuaded' into place. In hindsight I think if I had cleaned out the bolt holes on the existing cat section with a wire brush then they would have lined up 100% with the holes on the new rear pipe [:)]

surely that bucket will scrape along the ground though! [:D][:D][:D]

No, you obviously have to raise the axle stands a notch before you drive it......... [8|][8|].

At least you have found somewhere to fit yours. Mine remains on my bench after having examined various options, none of which I am happy with. []
