Oooo... Looks like it's gonna be a big one!

I've been putting it off. Had to be done though. Rang my local OPC today (Tonbridge) to get an indication of the cost of the next service on my S.

It will be 4 years old in December and will have covered 30k miles. Last service, 12 months ago (all right and proper), it had done 22.5k miles. [:)]

So, what's the likely damage? It'll be a major service (Eek! I'm gritting my teeth already in response to this comment). It will need new plugs (can I get away without I'm wondering) so that will be £740. Brake fluid change? Every two years of course (so I know I will have to swallow this one), £115. Oh, its four years old ... It will need an air bag test: £30 (great, I'll have two at that price). [:-]

There we are then... £885! Say it quick and it almost seems a bargain. [8|]

I'm getting it MoT'd next Monday. I shall be doing some more teeth gritting while I wait for the result. Goodness knows what the Missus will say if the £885 turns into something larger! []

Dependent upon what service you had last time you could probably get away with the low mileage annual service, but i'd add an oil and filter change to the list too. Get the brake fluid changed at and independent for about £50, and have them check the polyrib belt at the same time. Spark plugs are probably OK at your mileage.

Mine was four years old also in October and exactly same scenario - annual service last year. I bit the bullet and paid the money - if i wanted to sell it, documented good service history is important.

No extra costs, except cleaning vents during the service which was good.

I did wonder about that. Thing is, its another stamp in the book. It has a dealer stamp from two years ago when it was last changed. As Nic says, an impecable documented history is what's required. That was the first thing I wanted to see when I bought the car.

Oh, I think I should add, I am in no way surprised at the service cost. I know how they can soon rack it up with bits and bobs despite the fact that the published basic prices look almost attractive. How many of us get away with one of those?

Oh, one more thing... Is it worth it? You bet. It's the best driving experience I've ever had. I can't keep the smile off my face when I get behind the wheel! [;)]

See you've already booked the MOT but can recommend Freeway in St. Johns Rd., Tun Wells opposite the Skinners School. They do the MOT on site and move the car just a few yards across their car park should you be worried about anyone driving your beloved car. Why not get any work you need doing at an independent such as Paragon at Five Ashes and then the OPC for the service? I popped into OPC Tonbridge on Saturday morning for them to check my trickle charger to get home and find that they had forgotten to give me back the plastic connector cover thingy that goes into the dash socket. [] Phoned them and they said they would put it in post.

Talked to service advisor who confirmed that all waiting lists are going to 6 months to keep up residuals. Managed to get a 911 Booklet from the girl on reception. You would have thought I was asking for the Holy Grail with the look she gave me. When I asked her for a GT3 booklet she looked at me as if I was completely mad!

I have a plan to do just as you suggest Simon. I intend to have the service done during the last week in December and I'm getting the MoT done early so I can take a view as to where I go with any problems it may throw up.

Theres a company in Canterbury who specialises in the sale of high end performance cars (Broadoak Performance Cars). He shares his premises with a company called H.M.E. The guy that runs this is supposedly capable of providing an appropriate service. I would welcome any suggestions though as to who to turn to as an independent in this area of Kent.

Well, the good news is, it passed the Mot with flying colours. In fact I was very pleased to hear from the guy that did the test just how much of a "super car" he thought it to be. [:)]

So, for the time being, I can dispense with the concern over who to get to tinker with brakes and suspension joints and the like and look forward to a good no nonsense service bill from the OPC at Tonbridge! [8|]

Hi jimso,

Sorry to bump an aged thread but have just found it whilst having a nose about.

The chap you mention at H.M.E. is a very nice bloke who seems more than capable [:)]. He's had a look at our Boxster, infact he MOT'd it, and I'd certainly go back again for other queries/work, as it's just down the road. He does alot of high-end work, Bentley, Rolls-Royce's etc and according to my pseudo brother-in-law he's Ferrari trained too. Also whilst waiting you get to observe the current stock of Broadoak Performance.[;)]

I hope this of help.
Cool,
Dickster

I had the car serviced in December so I'm hoping thats it for a while. Thanks for your thought on the indi though. I will def consider them should I have need!
