I think I'm missing something []

Jeez, I looked at the first picture and thought you'd had a fire.

That looks like fun... Shall we have a sweep on the numer of squeaks Paul's car will have when he's done? [8D]

Paul,
Just out of interest and being a thoroughly nosey sort.... Why ?

Well its stupid really but I always really struggle driving on the right [] at Le Mans so I thought I'd try one of those RHD - LHD conversion kits you can find on EBAY [&:]

It's worked out really well but the chip to convert MPH to KMH doesn't seem to be working properly......yet

If all else fails I'll see if I can get a LHD one from Porschapart [;)]

Actually I was petrified about that, but now that it's all back together I have exactly ZERO [:D][:D][:D]

Which is pretty good as I had a tiny one from behind the radio before I started. I also cleaned everything before I put it back together, so even though it will never be seen again at least I know it's shiny back there [8|]

and again, WHY??

Jeez, i admire your dedication, but converting a car to LHD just to go to France????

now i know its not a very good example i set, but am i the only one who desparately puts off jobs? So far my car has had or developed:

- sunroof leak <no suprise>
- oil leak
- water leak
- slow flat on rear tyre
- battery runs itself flat if not used for 3 days (only done this twice in 7 months [:)] )
- alloys could do with touch up
- shock absorbers could do with changing
- slight play in steering

Apart from a few days ago when i was daydreaming whether i could get the sunroof leak to top up my cooling system, i have never even thought about fixing any of the above in the next four months.

If i were ever to sell my car, i think the advert would read 'well used'.

If anyone near Newcastle has trouble sleeping at night, i'm more than happy to give you the keys to my garage and toolshed.[:D]

It never stops though Chris. If you get those jobs done more appear, or you decide to change something when then leads to something else to fix. []

It's all worth it in the end though. At least I think it is.

So why did Paul take his dash out then?

Paul - you are quite clearly mad!
Chris - I like to compromise between doing the jobs and leaving them. So, what I do is buy the parts and then not fit them. Currently in my parts store (ie the fiancee's living room) I have new rear shocks, new rear ARB bushes (the bar itself is in the shed), new front ARB bushes, new fog light lens, new headlight, new rear pads and probably some other stuff I have forgotten. I will hopefully get round to fitting them one day. Alternatively, perhaps Paul would like to do it all for me, as he obviously has far too much time on his hands! [;)]

Right back to RHD now. It takes no time at all once you discover how to flip the picture on Photoshop [;)]

Anyway the true reason I took the dashboard out was because the original had cracked very badly along the top due to prolonged exposure to the sun and was really letting the car down badly. The cracks were barely there when I got the car two years ago but they were now nearly 4 inches long, 1/4 inch wide and there were 5 in total. These invisible repair places wouldn't touch it because the screen was in the way for their equipment plus there was no guarantee it would not crack again in the heat.

I'd been looking for the correct colour dash for about 18 months, and I finally found one on Anglesey after seeing it advertised on Pistonheads (cheers Tony). Loads of 944 owners in the US complain about cracked dashes in the heat but I have only heard of two over here, mine and Dr Tom on the Titanic forum (his was blue too).

I discovered last night that all did not go 100% perfectly with my swap [:-]

Driving down the M6 at 11pm in dreadful rain I realised that I had not reconnected my electric headlight level switch and guess where the lights were pointing? Yes straight down to about only 5 foot in front of the car. It was very scarey []

Now you know of three - I have a large crack in my dash right in the middle about 5 inches long. It does make the interior look scruffy.
