OPC Difference of opinion

Had a pre-purchase done on my 993 about 5 weeks/500 miles ago at an Official Porsche Centre. They found stuff which could do with doing at some point, but no show stoppers.
Car has today gone to a different OPC for an annual service and all of a sudden needs £3500 of work doing.
Strange. Wonder who's right?

depends on the OPC and what exactly they found...

unless the 1st OPC are then willing to slap on a OPC warranty to the car based on their inspection, although you may want to check to see what is covered from that £3.5k list !

How come it needed a service so soon?

I thought OPC's sold cars with a full service and MOT (if necessary) included!

Well, I'm not flapping and panicing as most of it is "consumables" that I can either do myself or get any reasonable spannerman to do:

£1266 brake work (Can DIY for about £400)
£860 wishbones and realign (spannerman can rebush for about £300, don't know if realign would be necessary afterwards?)
£1000 Rear oil seal (ppi picked this up as "slight weap, keep check on" ). Can wait until I need a clutch. Certainly no drips from it.
£150 heat shields (again can wait until the engine is out)
£107 leak from gearbox. Can't see it myself, probably a "weap" again.

Hi Lazza

I bought privately, just got the OPC to PPI the car. I enquired about a warantee but it was a few months too old to qualify for one (9 year cut off point). They did say what a good car it was though.

Cheers

Andy,

About three / four services ago (years) my local OPC said my lower wishbones needed rebushing, I did nothing, next year I casually said - please check the lower wishbones I think there maybe play in them, back came the answer - no they are fine - same OPC!!, since then they have passed every service fine, including two different indies - How's that for self healing wishbones!!!!

About four weeks ago I put my 993 to an OPC for an MOT which it failed due to high emissions. Thinking it may be a bit choked up because of the type of running at this time of year I thourghly heated up the cat and re-submitted it three days later but it failed again, this time to a much greater extent and was diagnosed, by the OPC, as having a knackered cat. Two weeks later I had it tested by an independant with a view to getting the necessary repairs done (he thought it may be the sensor), however it passed with flying colours with no work needed. oes this beat self-healing wishbones?

Save your money and get a better job done by an experienced independant specialist. Try one where your hourly labour rate pays for good workmanship i.e. not leather sofas and free coffee in the customer waiting area!

Well, I used them because they gave me a very good price ("new customer introductory offer, Sir"), and they're down the road from where Mrs Clap works.
I'll probably buy parts from there in the future, but go to specialists for servicing from now on.

Cheers

I have to say that I also worry about the best place to have work done to my car. I have recently bought a 3.2 carrera which has been serviced for the last couple of years by a local well renowned independent. It had new front wheel bearings fitted last year by them, one had quite a lot of play in it and failed it's MOT last week. They fitted a new headlamp last year. This was aimed too high and I tried adjusting it prior to MOT time, imagine my surprise on taking it apart to find that there was no adjustment mechanism fitted at all for some reason, you could alter it just by pushing the back of the lamp with your hands! Also the car failed it's emissions which I would have expected to have been checked at service time (3 months ago). So it is clearly a difficult choice who to trust.
