OPC DISCOUNTS

Am I really expecting too much to get any discount from list when I buy a new 9974S with close on £10k worth of options?

If I negotiated on a new M6 or an AMG, I'd be looking at a considerable reduction....what's the sketch with Porsche car salesmen; have they forgotten that they're only car salesmen??!

Your views would be greatly appreciated.

In the US you would get a sizable discount, in the UK though Porsche just don't do them. I managed to squeeze 500 quid off mine but that soon disappeared on Zymol treatments. I also got coloured wheel centres, and a Test Drive Plus day thrown in. And I was good friends with the sales guy way before he even worked for Porsche!

Why do so many people think that they should be given a discount - or get a 'freebie' or 2? If you want to barter, buy a BMW or a MB; the reason that you can get a discount on either of those marques is because the first is overpriced and in over-supply and the second is ...... a MB! Porsche don't need to entice buyers; if you don't want to pay the full price then there is always someone behind you who will. It's a case of supply and demand; the cars are in great demand - and that demand outstrips the supply. Easy really! Now if you want a real bargain - try your local Ford or Vauxhall dealer; on the Corsa you can almosts get a BOGOF deal (buy one get one free)!

The answer is to negociate politely; you will be surprised at what you can achieve [:)]. I speak from experience

A [n expensive] gift for a partner is usually forthcoming, especially if the partner has been seen by the salesman as a decision-maker. It does not hurt to ask.

I agree about the polite negotiating - but don't we all do that anyway? Notwithstanding that we're the customer, an agressive attitude is not going to be endearing! Also, however nice, a present for the wife is hardly anything to write home about - even if it is one of Herr Porsche's overpriced items; but the original question was about a discount - and that's very unlikely to be forthcoming. Nobody gets something for nothing!!

I got free floormats [:'(]

But better than paying for them... I'm sure I'll end up paying for them one way or another...
Dealer has suggested I trade my car in early, but this then means additional costs of reg transfers, which they won't pay for... (so there's my floormats[;)])

I bought a 10 month old C2S. Managed to get rear parking assist and coloured wheel centres chucked in. When I picked my car up, I got a toy replica 997C2S, a bottle of Drambuie and key rings. Thought that was nice of the OPC in Edinburgh. They also invited me to their track day at Knockhill. Before I bought the car, my hubby & I had a Porsche experience day in a 997 at Crail (a wee track in Scotland).

Maybe you should shop for your new car in Edinburgh!![;)]

Anything but......I just buy cars and use them as an enthusiast.[:D]

What makes you think I sell cars for a living? I'm too honest to do that![;)]

Not getting enough.....what?[8|]

Ian,

By the way, I'm going to be at the PCGB Festival this weekend; my 997 C4S will be on the Paintshield stand. If you're attending, come over, have a chat and another look at a C4S, if you want. By the way, I don't work for Paintshield - I'm just an extremely satisfied customer.

Lawyers of the world unite; you have nothing to lose but your briefs [:D].

Question - not really Porsche related. When lawyers get old, do they lose their appeal [8|]?.

Happy driving [:)] and a good Bank Holiday to everyone..

Hi
This is a bit of an old chestnut, and I'm afraid that in my experience you don't usually get much off in the way of cash (although suggesting 'rounding it down to a nice even number' sometimes works).
I have had good success with free options - it's as Julian says, try and strike up a rapport with the sales guy, and tell him what other OPC's are willing to do and see if he will match or better their offer.
I managed to get mats, coloured wheel crests, wind deflector and upgraded sound pack on my 986, mats, metallic paint and cd changer (and the salesmans Porsche pen!) on my 987 and a solid silver 911 keyring, mats and a few other goodies on my 997.
I know these are minor concessions on such a large purchase, but that's about all I've come to expect with Porsche. It's the same with any 'premium' product where supply does not exceed demand.
Good luck and try comparing deals between OPC's - after all the salesman will want to clinch the deal for their commission. Try going in towards the end of the month, if it's a showroom sale as they will want to clinch that commission on that months paycheck!

hmmm, I'm not so sure nowadays... seems that PAG will build anyone a car as long as you stump up the $£$£... long gone are the days where there supply was heavily weighted against demand, and more bullet proof residules; I think Ferrari are probably one of the few that still do that.

I bought my Boxster 3 weeks ago. It was a dealer demo and I went into purchase assuming that their would be no discount and nor was I going to ask for one. My understanding of OPC's was that you buy a demo at list. I was suprised to find that I didn't pay list and that I got a "genuine" over allowance on my trade in.

I got free mat and a Zymol treatment (which I wasn't happy with and subsequently had re-done elsewhere). That it. I for one am glad that they don't offer discounts, it devalues the used market.

I think there are two variants here.....

1/ A new car ordered & specified by you............. very few discount options, as mentioned mainly a few goodies!

2/ A nearly new/used, demo car etc. here you can happily negotiate to your hearts content & achieve a healthy discount etc.
