OPC gives away 996

...well almost. My OPC just managed to deliver back my 996 (following door lock repair under warranty) to a different house about 2 miles away in a different post-code region!

When I called to ask where it was, they said that as there was no one at home, we left the car and put the keys through the letter box.

No doubt the recipients thought Christmas had come early when they got home to find nice shiny valeted 996 on their driveway.

Doh!

So how did you get your car back?
I mean, the 'new owners' could have just told the OPC 'What car?' when they sheepishly returned to get the car and keys back. Then there'd really be trouble. Couldn't they have called you?
I really cannot believe that actually happened!!

Yes, actually happened this pm. I called the OPC about 5 as needed car for business meeting over golf - having previously called them an hour earlier and was told was on way (about 30 mins journey). They said it had been left on my drive - I confirmed it wasn't!! They contacted driver who said I wasn't in and had put keys through door. Eventually got put through to driver who had been given 'wrong map' by the drivers who's picked car up and delivered to house of same name, in different village, about 2 miles away.

Unfortunately, had no transport and taxis were too far away to go and get it in time for meeting/golf (not impressed with that).

In meantime, 'recipients' of my car found OPC paperwork and keys on their doormat and called OPC to say "what's this then"?

Eventually got lift from OH to go round and pick it up. Must say, it looked good parked outside their huge ex-farmhouse, but happy to get it back. Shame about the missed golf though - was a lovely sunny evening.

That really is incredible. I would have loved to see the look on the face of the house owner. You'd be bemused to find it on your drive but once the keys were behind the door...

Glad it all worked out for you. There can't be that many people these days who would resist the temptation to take it out for a spin.

So did the OPC have anything else to say, apart from, 'oops, sorry'?
get them to give the kind person who called them the 997 PDK for the weekend; you should take your pick for a weekend ride too.

Years ago something like this happened at a local Porsche dealership, Carlsen. Back then the 996 turbo had just come out. To get one you put a deposit down and waited 2 years.

The dealership called the owner to say the new turbo had arrived and it was being washed, The owner said he would be down to pick it up.

Someone got there first. A well-dressed person. The car wash person thought he was the owner and gave him the keys to the turbo.

When the true owner showed up the dealership realized what had happened.

Neither the imposter or the turbo were ever found.

It was all over the local news. The true owner was not happy someone made offf with a very expensive car he had waited 2 years for.

I'm sitting behind my letterbox with a nice food hamper having just changed my name by deed-poll to your OPCs 997 GT2 customer's name. Just sitting waiting for those keys to pop right through. Hope they hurry up, the Ebay sale of the car ends soon! :)

I would suggest free servicing for life at that OPC would be barely suitable compensation with the opportunity to drive over the toes of the servicing manager thrown in as a bonus.

Unbelievable!

PS: Give them my address next time......[:D]

....... who would resist the temptation to take it out for a spin.

Incredible, just thinking the same as Rob ! .............. and then think how different the story could have unfolded...... []
Glad it was in good, safe, respectful hands for the short time it was with it's foster owner [;)]
