OPC or INDE

My car's due a 96K service this year.I'vebeen given a quote from an OPC of 1.2K, whereas the INDE quoted half this value. My car has had 95% of it's servicing at OPC's in the past, but I'm not sure if I can justify the expense. I'd appreciate comments.

Chris,

I've always been wary of places where the staff are younger than the car!! My feeling is that the OPCs are fine for the 996/7 & Boxsters but any staff they have with 964 experience are likely to be way beyond actually working on the cars. A lot of the better known independents have experience with 964s to put the OPCs to shame - and you'll save a bunch of money into the bargain.

Hope that helps you make the decision!!

Dave is spot on, most specialists are far more experience on 964's and usually half the price.
If you must use OPC make sure they give you the name of the experienced mechanic and make sure he did the work by talking to him afterwards.

Find yourself a good independent and stick with them. At the OPC you will be a job number wheras at an inde you will be a person who you can build a good customer relationship with and wont rip you off.
A full OPC service history really isnt going to cut it compared to an inde service record if you are going to trade it in TBH so its not really viable to go and blow double the cash on the same job. Like Jeff has said, where are you based as I am sure that someone will be able to recommend a good independent to you.

Neil Eldred

Taking a 964 to an OPC is a licence to have your wallet stolen!

I second all the other posters, and say find a good indie (although they vary)

Thanks for the advice, I'm based in London but will be moving to Sheffield in the summer. I agree that INDE is best, price alone I can't see how OPC can justify paying double for the same work. Just hope the car doesn't reveal something too serious.

Cheers

CD, I had the same burning question as my car when I bought it had 14yrs at OPC however all the same one, so new the car inside out however my local OPC did the same thing and quoted me about 1.8k for all my work needed, so I asked a few trader friends of mine and found the guy who used to run the OPC who has his own business, and went along to see him, and the place was covered in 911 and 968 and 944 cars which made me feel comfortable seeing other people trust him, and got talking to a customer of his who turns out to be the Chief Inspector of Strathclyde police who has used Graeme for like 10 years and swears by him so I thought perfect. The whole thing cost less than half the OPC quote and also when I said brakes and discs, he said no they are fine, but OPC said change them so goes to show he's no con artist like some OPC's!!

I'd go INDE from now on!!
