OPC or specialist for 12k

Its service time and I can't decide...

I got on quite well the OPC Solihull when I dropped in for their free winter check. The only problem is delivering / collecting the car - as its not on my doorstep. Des, the WS manager, has offered his most experienced technician "as the younger ones don't always know the 964's" ... in his words!

BUT ... I work about 500 yrds away from Pete Chambers, a well known specialist in Porsche, Ferrari & Lambs. Same money, really convenient, but not the dealer stamp. When I dropped in he had a GT3, a 944 and a 962!!! - so he knows his Porsches.

I would normally recommend specialist, but now its my own money I feel I'm edging towards the OPC.

Anyone got good or bad to say about either choice?

Independent every time. The OPC can be as well meaning as they like - but even their most experienced tech will not see the volume of 964s to keep him up to speed with the real way to maintain them. If I was buying a car of 993/964 or older and everything else was equal I'd choose the one with indie stamps not OPC stamps (obviously as long as the indie was well respected)

Agree, I would actually be concerned if I found an OPC stamp for a 20 year old car, also beware they like to add on extras to the bill

Specialist, my local OPC have very little knowledge on the older cars, and dont see them all the time. My Indie, has 964s in all the time, and most staff are ex-OPC and did 964s when new.

Thanks for comments.

I would agree whole-heartedly if I hadn't already had a visit to the OPC and been impressed with the few little things he put right during his inspection. Also, if the local indie was one of the really well known ones, I don't think it would be a consideration, but they're not.

Has anyone got experience of Pete Chambers?
