OPC p/e prices..

Guys,

Just trying to work out cost of ownership for a few months... to buy a used and the get MY07 in spring...

Can people advise on experiences with trade in p/e at OPCs and what you can typically expect.....

As an example of a used S with around 6-8K worth of extras.. on 1 - 1.5 year old with av miles, in good condition......

As with any car dealer I would expect to get shafted!. [;)]

I'd sit it out as now you'll be paying seasonal prices with off-season payback.

Sell privately and go to your OPC with a big deposit and no part ex. Should give you the best of both worlds. You won't get a discount off a new car but you may get some toys thrown in for free (key ring, brolly, alu fuel cap etc. If you don't ask....).
 
Prices might be improving now summer is here, and UK allocation of Boxsters is being reduced in favour of Caymans.

However, bear in mind there will be approx £7k difference between what the OPC give in p/ex and their sticker price

I suspect the relative profit margins for each model might have something to do with it.....

The trade in value for my 2004 Boxster at 4 months old was the reason I took fright and left Porsche. In hindsight it was a mistake as in percentage terms the loss was one of the best I had on the cars I have had since, with the exception of the M3 (a used car purchase).
 
Not 100% sure for Porsche but most cars have their highest trade in value percentage wise at 2 years old with average miles and service history. Think about it, if you go in to buy a Boxster and there's a 4 month old one for very close to the new price you'll just buy a new one. Thats why you'll lose a fortune in the first year or two. They really seem to hold their value as the push on in years. I'm amazed that a '98 with 60,000 miles is worth €30,000 in Ireland. That makes it one of the best cars for holding its value.
 
A new Boxster (basic) is €71,000. Spec a few options and €78-80K is the new price. (I know you can go nuts on the options). The '98 cars I'm looking at now for €30,000 are low spec ones. Some are real low spec with no climate, tape player, 16" alloys etc. Still an 8 year old car holding 40% of its new value is pretty amazing.
 
And strangely enough, the OPC prices are cheaper than the other dealers who have are trying to make a quick buck on them....

it may be 71k entry rpice - say 75k more most typical entrey price. The problem is that Ireland sells out of its allocation very quickly - so for me to get a new one for January, I'd have to order it in about May the preceeding year. So a lot of non porshce dealers, order cars. regeister them and play with them for a few months. Then sell them on - at about a 10 percent markup on the new price I might add...

How much is 30k Euros at the moment? £20k? If so you'd be much much better shopping for one in the UK. There are a double handful of 2000 S models going for £16.5 to £17.5k on Autotrader.

But the problem is that on top of the currency change - we have a import tax of about 30% of the open mark value price of the car. So, at around 17k but price, we would still have about 10,000 euro of a tax bix to pay on importation. So in short, we might save about a grand or so - and probably have a better choice in fairness.. but most people part-ex their cars too over here..

So that may part explain why our second hand prices are so high. Its all a bit artificial.

Well a new one is way out of my league at the minute (unless my 6 numbers come up) but I guess thats just tough. Didn't get the car sorted but the noise isn't as bad, it's gone very quiet so we'll get it checked when its serviced in a few weeks. I suppose the OPC should really order more cars from the factory. It makes no sense if independant dealers are selling them when it should really be the OPC. As you say they only charge the proper price but they don't make a penny unless they sell the car.
 
But thank god - despite the obvious typo on that dealers link, we do actually have a Carrera GT on this Island. Sold be a dealer - Des Cullen for a reputed 1 million euro. - tax included !

AFAIK, the dublin OPC and the Belfast OPC come from the same allocation from Porsche Cars GB - so when they sell out, they are sold out its a simple as that. We dont have other dealer to go to - so in short, we are screwed.

Next time, I'm gonna sell my car private and probably go to the UK got source a car....

I sat into that car in the garage. I had gone in to ask about a Lotus Elise and it was there. Lovely car. The tag in the window said €1 Million, but I can't imagine anyone actually paying that when you could get one for circa €850,000 at the same time in the UK including the VRT (our 30% rip off illegal car tax). But fair play to him for bringing one in. Wonder if he'll ever get an Enzo?
 
Umm Des Cullen sold an enzo a year or two ealier... I think it went to contintental france somewhere.....

He had it at the phoenix park race when he bought up about 30 mins of track time in 2003ish
