OPC Service or Specialist

My '97 Boxster is due for a service in December. Currently 54k on the clock and a FPSH record thus far.

Any opinions on whether a service from a well known specialist rather than an OPC stamp is a false economy? What impact do you think it will have on the resale value, if any, and would you buy a car if it had such a record?

cheers

On cars over 5 years old many PC's do special reduced labour rates if you ask!, also if you get an idea from your well known specialist on costs involved, you maybe able to negotiate a very similar deal and still stay within the PC system.[&o]

I know an independant is cheaper but as it's only every 12k or annually I would be inclined to keep an OPC stamp in the book. Take your own oil to save yourself some money.

A lot of people like to see a OPC stamp in the service log when buying.

JCB..

I also have a '97 with 55k on the clock and have full OPC service history. They give me the discount Daro mentioned.

I think it depends what you want to do with the car - If you intend to keep it for a number of years then weigh up the difference in cost between an OPC & an independant and make your decision. If ypu then sell it in say 4 yaers time then I cannot believe that OPC stamps on a 13 year car will mean much extra on the resale.

If however you only plan to keep it for 12 months then sell then the OPC stamps are probabley worth something

Similarly if you envisage chopping it in in 12 months for another car at the OPC then bear in mind that the sales guy will use the non OPC service history to his advantage. However, if you think the next car will be a used 911 from a specialist or a Boxster from the classifieds or whatever, then a good speciailist stamp in the book won't matter.

JCB, I thought about offering it round to my local OPC......but I just keep getting worried about leaving it with them, and it getting scratched, and them denying it, and not having transport for a few days.......just dont believe they're going to show me any 'love' for my efforts. If it was for the club, I DEFINATELY would, but my OPC....which have included free windscreen wash, and 1 litre of oil twice during services, only to charge me for it...and to refuse to do an annual check up on my car only so that they can charge me more for a full 12k........
