OPC Service Pricing

Just thought I let you know that you can saved £214.84 (inc VAT) on the new pricing annual service just for supplying your own oil. Major service is £558 (inc VAT) including oil. Not sure if all OPCs allow you to bring your own oil though...

This has been a route for saving a few pounds over the last few years. The problem for me is finding the oil at a suitably cheap price to justify bothering.

I know Costco occaisonally have worthy deals, but the're 50 miles away.

Roll-on the opening of the new local one.

I'm pretty such you can just go down to Esso and pick up 2x4l and a1l (total 9l) for less than £90.

I've been buying Mobil 1 from french supermarkets for the last few years. (We go to Le Mans every year - so it's easy)

Price is about £40 for the amount needed for a change.

Printed price for an annual major service at all OPC is £558; My invoice states:
"£558 inc VAT minus the oil as supplied own"
the total next to it as 292.05 + VAT. If this was a mistake then I'm not going back to complain [;)]

I reckon they did make a mistake - the last time I paid OPC prices for oil it was a little over £100. Pick the right moment and you can get it for £50 in a Halfords sale.

Good on ya! [:D]

You are serious! Okay, I'll delete the thread and all evidence; now, all of you: look into my eyes, look into my eyes, the eyes, not around the eyes...[:)]

4l mobil one at costco- 23pounds inc vat[:D]
4l mobil one at opc- 47 pounds[:'(]
mmmmmmmmmm.............[8|]

get to a local costco buy 12l for 69 big ones and save the remaining 3l for topping up, or the next service. it has always been for sale in the motoring section whenever i have been, and the money you save will buy lots of wine, again at costco prices[;)]

Or you can order a range of oils recommended by Porsche from Simon or Guy at Opie Oils, as featured on this very Forum!...
(The Total oils look like good value, are the correct spec for the Boxster & are Porsche recommended)

I have always believed I was fortunate in having the best OPC around considering the professional way they conduct themselves, and their friendly approach to all matters. This discussion caused me to check my last May 2005 service invoice where I find that the oil cost was £103.50. If you are paying in excess of £200 it could pay you to drive to Mid-Sussex! What I do object to is Porsche's latest advice to supply a spare 1 litre spare @ £10.49, both costs plus 10%. I suppose you are getting 10% discount for PCGB membership??
Happy motoring, JJ [:)]

I too was given a 1 litre spare on top of my 3 litres left over; I told them that I didn't quite need this as I already have 3 litres and it was removed from my invoice. Though I did get suckered into having a full bottle of the Porsche Window Cleaner for £2.86+VAT; I already had the screenwash fully topped up (with softwater of course), so I guess I saved on the 5 minutes labour that I would have been charged otherwise [:)]

Having read all your responses I believe my reduction is not only for oil; see, the car has done less than 9K and should have technically gone for the low mileage £151 annual service but a major service was done and they may have not charge me for the work that was not needed(?).

Question: What is so radically different between the MY03 986 and MY04 986 that a 03 needs a minor service every year (or 12K) and a major every 2 years (or 24K) whereas a 04 needs a minor every 2 years (or 12K) and a major every 4 years (or 24K)?

Oh, I didn't get the 10% PCGB discount, do you get this on the full service or just the parts used in the service?

Good discussion But.... My OPC at Glasgow has told me that at my next service they must supply the oil and not me. I must also pay their price for the oil and not mine. Since the Edinburgh OPC is also a Sytner/Penske owned outlet I am snookered unless anyone can tell me differently whilst I have an Extended Porsche warranty. Very P**d off about it as Mobil 1 in 4 litre sealed containers must work as well as the OPC Gold plated Mobil1 in 20 litre drums at three times the price......[sm=spanner1.gif][]

In answer to THX911,
To be perfectly honest I can't swear that I get discount on the service cost, I assumed that I did from discussions within the Region. The 12,000 mile service and status cost on my MY02 2.7 with 9,855 mileage was £174.20 so perhaps you can guage from that. What I have found is that you get out of life (at 73+) what you put in, I try to see both sides of any situation, and have always received excellent service from PC Mid-Sussex, even to the extent of popping in for a cup of coffee when in the area for a chat, and from what I have heard not every OPC is so welcoming!
Happy motoring, JJ [:)]
