OPC Servicing

Have a 56 plate Boxster that I bought new from Porsche Newcastle.

6 year service due, plus replacement timing belt and brake fluid change required. Quoted £790.

Not sure why OPC fixed price servicing is so much cheaper for 986 compared to 987 - I guess this is what they think they can get away with.

Live Northumberland and not many alternatives to Porsche dealer.

Questions:

Is it worth paying OPC rates for a 6 year old car?
Any experience of negotiating prices?
Worth travelling to OPC further afield?

I've gone back to my OPC for scheduled "menu" servicing now as its actually cheaper than the local indies. Plus I get to borrow a new model for the day. My 986 is 10 this summer. Chris.

Welcome to the forum Graham. I think that the PCs have woken up to the fact that they're losing business to reputable Indies in their area and have decided to take them on by offering reduced price servicing on the older (986) cars. An advantage is that you get the official PC stamp in the book, but watch out if they come back informing you that such-and-such needs replacing because they'll be charging you at their full retail rate..! Since they're offering a reduced price for the service I doubt that they'll give you a discount but, as Paul says, if you're a Club member there just might be an additional 10% discount on parts used. And it's always worth getting a quote from other PCs or from Indies in your area for reference. I doubt that not having a full Porsche service history will have a significant effect on your 6 year old car's resale value provided the work has been carried out by a reputable Independent, but a full Porsche service history is always an attractive selling point. Agreed!! I took my 2005 987 in for some minor work and it came back with an unsolicited health check and estimate for £4,800 worth of work! Fortunately I have been in the motor trade all my working life and after checking all of the jobs without exception were in keeping with the age of the vehicle and non essential repairs. Although I had to laugh at 1 advisory which was "Rear indicator bulbs starting to show white light" with an estimate of £61.00 plus VAT to supply and fit 2 bulbs!!![&:] I can see this frightening the life out of people with a lesser knowledge of the trade so always get a 2nd opinion from a good indie

Graham Newcastle OPC are giving 50% Labour &17% parts discount for members, but not sure what age the car has to be will check in the next few days
