OPC Silverstone PCGB discount?

Hi all,

Its time for the dreaded 4 year major service on my 997, the local OPC is Silverstone, anybody know if they offer a discount for PCGB members?

Also with only 16K miles on the clock I'm wondering if the spark plugs really need replacing?!

Cheers!

Yes, but do show them your card when you book it in as well as when you come to pay.

My Boxster went 6 years on it's original plugs, but if you're on the Porsche warranty they probably won't allow you the option.

Cheers, planning to use OPIE oils for the lubricants as well. Might as well make use of my membership!

Well, I don't know if Silverstone will use an owner-supplied oil as I've never tried it, but before you spend the money it might be worth checking with them.

The real question is whether anyone has had any success at arguing away any of these items while still retaining the warranty.
I very much doubt you'd get away with skipping any of these items.

Any negotiating points/suggestions would be gratefully received.
Just get a few locals indis to quote you for the same.

If its any help, I had a Minor + brake fluid + spark plugs done at Silverstone in July and with PCGB discount it was £660 total. The £610 certainly comes from Porsche menu pricing, but some of those other numbers don't make sense to me.

As you may have read in Porsche Post, I've recently been through the 4 year service []
I did get a good 'combined deal' from the OPC and got the 111 inspection done at no cost being as it was already in for service..
Then a generous club discount [:)]

Silverstone did offer me the 10% club discount when I last visited them.

I'm not looking forward to the 6 year service in the Spring [:(] which will be the first under my ownership. Would appreciate thoughts on whether I should take the car to OPC Silverstone or to stick to the indy route (RPM for those in Bucks/Beds, RPM have done a great job on the small bits I've had to do).

So far my car has had two services at Hatfield and one indy (Strasse) and I'm simply wondering about the relative importance, come re-sell, of the OPC service stamps. The price difference seems to be £300 or so for a standard service (and I'm not expecting any surprise "extras" which i would certainly use RPM for in any event).

Is there a report in the January issue? And have they been sent out - as I haven't had a copy?

Chris, a few people have commented that they haven't received their copy as yet (including wall planner [&:])
Seem like the postal service is running a lottery on delivery times [;)]

So after retrieving this month's Porsche Post from the wormhole into which my better half decides to put all car related media (Also found this month's Evo, very happy..!) I had a scan for the article but it wasn't obvious.

Perhaps speed scanning so many of those post Christmas break emails has left my eyeballs with scarring in certain areas so it may well be there!

Anyway, back to topic. I called OPC Silverstone to discuss the options, you can take in your own oil, they dont like it but you can do it so long as its the same as they would use and you can use the PCGB discount which is ace.

Here is the breakdown of costs as discussed with the OPC:

"¢ Major service £600
"¢ Brake fluid £150
"¢ Spark plugs £200
"¢ Drive belt check £30
"¢ Tyre goo £45

Total £1025

Deductions

"¢ Spark plugs £200 (car has only done 16K non track m/way miles)
"¢ Taking own oil £120 (!)
"¢ PCGB Discount on £705 £70.50

Total £390.50

Total cost after deductions £634.50

Also note that 8.5 litres of Mobil 1 or comparable is needed which will be around £70 using our membership discount at OPIE.

Interesting thread guys. I haven't received my Porsche Post / Wallplanner yet either [:(]

Does anyone know if OPC Hatfield also offer members a discount for servicing and is it 10% ?

Porsche cars UK have tried to make it across the board with the 10% Porsche club discount, however the majority of the OPC are franchise so they have the final say..
However to be fair the majority do honour the 10% if informed prior....

Thanks Gary - I believe Hatfield is part of Porsche GB and not franchised so it sounds like it should be fine then.

Is the discount on the complete service or just the parts used ?

Usually on the parts only but do speak to your service team prior as I have had the 10% off the bill before now....
