OPC used warranty breakdown cover: Europe?

Rickster

New member
Hi all,
I am planning a trip to the ring and wonder if my used warranty breakdown cover extends to europe?

Do i need to do anything to let them know before the trip?

Obviously i guess they wont tow me from the ring itself (or probably surrounding area!) but should i break down in France etc.....

Sorry, cant put my hands on the paperwork to check myself just now!

Thanks in advance

Rick

It most certainly does cover you in Europe but I think my policy booklet must be in the car, so I can't say if you have warn them you're going. I suspect not.

Porsche breakdown cover is provided by the RAC. The porsche policy and the RAC one are identical the difference is you get get a receptionist that says "Hello Porsche Assist" , rather than "Hello RAC". Probably the same person, they just say a different greeting !!

Apparently that's not the case.
There was an RAC Control centre visit by the 997 register last year, in which they got first hand experience of how things work.

Any breakdown via the Porsche policy is handled by their Porsche Assist Team which have a good knowledge of Porsche issues and are supposed to handle your query from start to finish (including arranging flights/taxis etc where required). You also get the Prestige assistance guys doing the actual breakdown work (a small team which deals with 'prestige marques such as Porsche, Bentley and Lamborghini) and carry 'N' rated tyres just in case.

Not only that, but Porsche breakdowns - as part of the policy - are given a much higher priority than normal breakdowns, and come only one step below female driver breakdowns in the pecking order -so you should get seen too much quicker too.

Good to know! Thanks Rodney.

I called them to check if i had to do anything before i left and they said not but the booklet i got from Porsche has several instructions eg use road side phones in Germany when you break down on m'way as this is the law and then keep the receipt and call Porsche breakdown from off the autobahn.

However my brochure is dated May 05 and i called RAC and OPC to check if there was a newer one and the guy from RAC told me to just ring the UK 0800 number in case of a breakdown and didnt seem to know much about travelling abroad [] eg what to carry etc (Triangle etc)

Updated brochure ? OPC were as helpful as you can imagine....... call the RAC......

Ah the endless circle of life

Yes i'm sure that Porsche would suggest a better level of service but I've been with the RAC for about 20 years and owned other sports cars. In every case the RAC have sent a specialist (when I had my RX7) or a flexi platform loader if the car needed recovering. I doubt the RAC technicians are dedicated exclusivley to porsche assist so any RAC member with a porsche can ask for an experienced technician and get the same person. If you join the RAC direct you have the option for family cover and multiple cars, the Porsche cover only covers you and the vehicle as far as im aware. When you get abroad , i doubt the premium service carries the same weight as it does here in the UK. If you have porsche assist as part of an extended warranty then its a bonus, but I wouldn't pay for Porsche assist over standard RAC cover , the RAC do a good enough job. If you want priority assistance get your wife to make the call.
