OPC vs "Trusted" Dealer

Hi Everyone,

A chum of mine is about to launch himself into the world of Porsche, but as his desire is a 981 Boxster/Cayman S, his choice on OPC Porsche finder seems a bit limited and prices are *ahem* "strong". His primary concern is of course warranty. He wants the reassurance of a main dealer 'just fix it' solution which I fully understand (as i keep paying to renew mine...)

Has anyone bought a car from a reputable non-Porsche dealer and then driven it to their local OPC and signed up for a 'proper' warranty with the 2469point check?

Ta

Yes no issue. 981 will need to be totally standard though or Porsche won’t provide warranty. Includes N rates tyres

if possible get the inspection done as a term of the purchase

James,

If the car is on a SOR at a dealer and the car is on a Porsche extended warranty with the current owner I believe that it can be transferred to the new owner (FOC?) for the remainder of the warranty period. I don’t think that it’s necessary to have the 111-point check either.

Jeff

I don't think you can buy a Porsche warranty from an OPC unless there is an existing warranty in force. The previous owner could buy it before he sells it though.
Personally I'm far happier buying from an OPC even though the cost is higher.

Hi Keith,
Not sure thats right. Porsche are pretty cool about things as long as you have the 111 point check

Chaps,

Just to clarify my post I wasn’t referring to an official Porsche dealer (who wouldn’t be selling SOR as far as I’m aware) but rather non-franchise, maybe a Porsche Independent who’s adverting on behalf of an owner whose car has a Porsche extended warranty.

An official Porsche dealer will of course be offering a 2-year extended warranty.

I did this recently with my 981CS.

I have done exactly this. Car from specialist - warranty from porsche - but as others have said - they are strict on the rules - the ones I know are Porsche battery, matching N rated tyres, no more than 5 years old, no Zunnsport grills, no hardwired dashcams, previous service MUST have been performed by OPC, no non porsche replacement parts for suspension . You also must have owned the car for 3 months ( assuming you are not renewing an existing warranty).

The 111 check is 200 quid - it seems pretty thorough.

That’ll be the tyres and not the car James.

To quote Porsche regarding the Extended Warranty:

To be eligible to purchase a policy your vehicle must have less than 125,000 miles and be under 14 years old for a 1 year insurance policy or 13 years old for a 2 year insurance policy.

And, presumably, ivo the new three year option, under 12 years old for that warranty.

Yup. Tyres.

sorry went a bit comma crazy on my original post.

A buddy of mine did the same with his car, his only issue was supplying dealer had serviced that car (very thoroughly ) and stamped the book meaning he had to pay for the car to be serviced again at opc before the warranty could be applied.

he knew that in advance so it wasnt a surprise but made it a more expensive option.

given the extensive warranty that this gives and the requirements to meet it (they will replace the battery, tyres, brakes if below a certain level ) makes the opc supplied cars less "strong money"

I have seen evidence of an opc supplied car having had service, tyres, brakes and front dumper resp as part of prep. At least 3k worth of work if you paid opc front door prices. Made this paring clear car actually very well priced when you factor in those numbers.
