Hi my wife has always said I was stupid and now if proven myself...I am stupid. Got flat battery on 2003 boxster s, got to battery using power to fuse method. Took battery out to charge and shut down bonnet ..big mistake me thinks . My question is ,is it possible to open by same method with donor battery or is it the search for hidden cable. I have no way off taking wheel off as cannot get locking wheel nut out or Jack..any help gratefully received. Many thanks in advance, mark

I don't know how to do it but this has happened numerous times before to others.
Try the search function.

Mark,

Since you've actually removed the battery from the car I'm not sure that using the slave battery method will work, but it's worth trying before using the emergency pull-cable method. I think if you apply some steering lock you should be able to remove the lower part of the wheel arch liner to gain access to the cable. Be careful though because it may be very stiff if it's not been used for 17-years.!

Hi thanks for quick response. I have tried connecting a battery charger to the fuse but that just sets alarm off but no joy on bonnet release...just my luck .so regarding release cable which side is it most likely to be please? Cheers mark

Sorry Mark, our posts crossed over. My guess would be the RHS as in the PET (have a good look through the Illustrations* to see if you can decide if they're for a LHD vehicle). I wouldn't think that it would be different for LHD and RHD ... but you never know!

Jeff

* I've now looked more critically through the illustrations and it seems that they're for a LHD vehicle (e.g. Illustration 809-00 showing the dashboard and support structure).

Hi,

Just something to try. I had exactly the same issue, couldn't find the release pull, got a jump lead and a battery charger onto the fuse pull out and still not enough power for the floor mounted bonnet release to work. I tried the key button release and it worked. Not sure why. Its a 987 so not sure if 986 keys have the Frunk and Boot lid release on there as well as in the car.

Good luck
Dave

Hi dave, did you actually have the battery disconnected and sorry you be so dim but when you say key button release was it just a case of using fob button? Thanks mark

My apologies Mark, I shoud have read the post more thoroughly, I hadnt realised the battery was not on the car. I think you can assume the electrical circuit is broken if the battery is not there to connect the circuit.

I did spend ages trying to find the cable pull on the drivers side as detailed in all the online help I could find. Eventually found it in the near side / passenger front wheel well behind the wheel arch liner. Obviously its the drivers side for American and German drivers. The bonnet was open by that time.

Best of luck
Dave

I have sent you a PM with a solution. I'm not sure other 986 owners would appreciate the solution on here as it gives very easy access to the front storage.

Fab....seen pics...will give ago tomorrow as car is stuck at work lol .many thanks for that. Much appreciated all the replies.

All sorted....took a charged donor battery to work with me ...connected the jump leads to the fuse and door latch...set alarm off..would not work with floor switch but opened straight up with fob...so thankfully it will work still with no battery fitted for future reference for everyone. Thanks again for all your help, mark
