Opinion on what I should ask for my 1996 RHD C4 993

I have been relocated to the US as part of my job which is generally great but it makes by UK based 993 redundant. I need to sell it , and from a logistics view point, the only realistic option is a dealer.
Any opinions about what sort of price I should open negotiations at

Carrera 4
Mileage : 53 K -had new clutch at about 50K
Colour : Polar Silver
Manual 6 spd CAB with varioram
Pretty original except for 'normal' suspension upgrade to bilstein
Condition generally good.
I never got round to replacing the 16 in wheels.

Any help appreciated

As usual I think Maurice is being a bit optimistic....[;)]

Take a look on pistonheads to compare http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/list.asp?p=1&s=555

For a standard C4 with 16" wheels if it has a full history and no probs then I think if you get £26k you are doing well...dealer will probably offer you 20k. Ring Henry at 911 Virgin and ask what he'll pay - no harm in asking?

Totally agree with Maurice's sentiments : you can't drive a share certificate.

The internet trawl seemed to suggest pick a number, although most of them had twice the mileage nearly.

Seemingly if I walk away with 25-27 k from a dealer I should be satisfied.

Anyone had any experience with sean lockyear b.t.w . I am based in the North East (when in UK) so any suggestions for dealers welcome.

It'll be a sad day.[&o]

But one thing I do not do, is sit around fretting whether my car is worth more or less than I paid for it ..[;)]

cheers, Maurice [:D]

Thank god Maurice.

There are enough ruddy porsche investment owners out there....I hope the 993 owners don't start going that way as we seem to be getting more threads (admittedly not here) on 'last of the air cooled...so must preserve' and 'Great my 993 is now worth more than a 996'.

Who cares? Just drive them like they were built for!

Tigger I'm from Newcastle originally and you are right there is a distinct lack of specialists up there - what about Strasse in Leeds or Spec Cars of Malton?

"Average" narrow body 993 prices on Henry's web site (and in Porsche Post) seem to be firming up from c. £22k-£24k last year to more like £25-£27k now.

Like you say, who cares really, most of us have no intention of selling our cars, (If I did, I would only buy another 993).

However it's nice to know other people appreciate them too.

Thanks to everybody for chipping in. I never bought the car as an investment and the sale is reluctant, but I would be doing the world a disservice by keeping the car in storage and at best driving it a few days annually-thats not what these great cars are about.
It will be a sad day [&o][&o][&o] as I have said. I am still debating wether to buy one here [:D][:D](It looks as though I could with money to spare from this sale) but the driving conditions compared with N.E England are different. New Orleans is full of pot holes as well. No points system or speed cameras though....................

strasse have a great reputation up north and should give you a reasonable offer.good luck and enjoy the abscence of cameras!![:D]

Here, bl00dy, here![:D]

I looked into shipping it over to the US, but basically for anything built 80s onward its just not economic by a long stretch to meet US regulations, assuming that the Customs people will even let the car in. A lot of the shipping companies won't even do it because of bad experiences. Then you are trying to insure a RHD car in a country where the insurance companies believe recognising International experience equates to Canada. My 25 years of driving experience in the UK counted for naught as I queued with the 15 year olds to get my Louisiana Drving licence which involved driving a few blocks + a computer test.

Thanks. Yes -when I bought the 'market' was hotter -but who cares, I have had a great time[:D][:D]. Sean Lockyear made me a decent preliminary offer (which stacked up against the other dealer Strasse I contacted) -basically around 24 k. I realise buying from a dealer and then selling the car back to a dealer for cash is possible the worst from a financial viewpoint, but I don't have the time to get embroiled with private buyers.

I think an offer of 24k from a dealer is good - nice to know you have it - why not stick it on pistonheads quickly at 28/29 and see if you get lucky?

Good luck.

Always tough, especially when you really do love the car and by the sound of things you have enjoyed ownership. I sincerely hope you get a great price for it and will be able to invest in another 993 in the States. You have to keep us posted on your progress.

I think Jason is spot on at around 26k maybe 27, if your 24 bid from a stealer your looking at only 2 difference and no agro.

Again as jason says stick on pistonheads, but at 25,995 and see what happens .................

Advertise it on Pistonheads for a good £28k and then look on the brightside when you get to the states you can get a C4S with similar mileage and a have healthy balance for maintenance or blow the whole lot on a 993TT!!
