Opinions on This Adapted Harness Bar

Because it isnt practical to retrospectively add a harness bar to an approved cage, Im thinking that the linked-to part below could be suitable:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Safety-Devices-Universal-Dash-Bar-Kit-Contains-1-Bar-/270735645674?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3f091a1bea

This is Safety Devices' 'knee breaker' bar; a retro-fit addition which is intended to join the front cage tube across/underneath the dashboard. I believe that I can fit this same part between the uprights of the main hoop to use as a harness mount (with the final fixings on the exisitng lap belt mounts).

Id be extremely interested to hear other peoples opinions. Are any MSA scrutes members of the forum?

If its a harness guide bar then what about a horizontal bar between the roll cage members bolted on for location with welded or rose jointed struts back down to a rear lower seat belt mount each side to reduce the span and take the load?

The harness is at the right height but I dont think the angle then downwards to the final fixings once guided over the bar is critical however I do believe that a hoop or other means is required to prevent lateral movement of the harness along the bar.

Beyond my ability Paul (I havent got rose joints in my suspension, let alone on my harness bar!), but a good idea none-the-less. For lateral location Id probably be looking at tie wraps, unless I could find some suitable clamps. Part of the appeal of this, apart from it being a neat solution, is that itd all be Safety Devices.

I wonder if webbing could be used: still fixed to the lap mounts as youve suggested?

I wouldn't have thought it would be an ideal fitment. As a knee saver, it and its mountings, are designed to take compression forces, whereas the harness bar mounts will be under tension.

I would have thought the best alternative would mount a bar on the standard rear belt upper mount and angled forward and a vertical strut behind each seat
