hey there, just done my own belts and apparently its not unusual for them not to line up perfectly, mine certainly didnt, not perfectly anyway, and since it ran really smooth before i just put them back to where they were and its super smooth again when got it going. Cant recall totally but look on clarkes garage as the marks on the pulleys changed at some point, Its to do with the woodruff keys as there two keys on each shaft, one for pulley and one for the pulley cover bit, and think top one the D goes to top and on bottom pulley D goes to bottom, check clarkes garage site and you cant go wrong, hope this helps a little.

I'm off for three weeks and deceided to change all the belts on my 944 T

Quite a straight forward job in truth but I have discovered that the lower balance shaft timing mark was not setup correctly when changed last.

When the cam timing mark, flywheel mark, and upper balance shaft all align, the lower shaft mark was nowhere to be seen.

I pick up new belts tomorrow and my job for the day was to prep it up ready and give a spring clean in places normally not accessable but I thought I would ask the question.

just how much of a difference to normal running would this shaft make when not aligned?

I guess I will know when it's all together but in truth, it ran very sweet in its incorrect setting.

very interested to read your thoughts or experiences of when shafts not aligned.
