...........have been given the opportunity to upgrade my current 2.7 Boxster for a 3.2 Boxster S.

Wondered if I could pick your brains about what you believe is a fair price for this car as I think the current owner is asking just a little too much for it. FYI, it's a private sale and i'm a cash buyer.

Spec as follows:

51 plate Boxster S (2002)
Cobalt Blue (special Porsche colour I know)
13,700 miles
FPSH
1 owner from new
Bose
Sports Seats
Litronics
Painted rear console and roll bars
PSM
Climate Control

I'd be grateful for your thoughts.

Dawn what are you doing with the 2.7 as I may know an interested party ... [;)]

That "S" sounds a great spec but too many expensive options like trick paint job, Bose, full leather etc ... How much are they asking for it in the first place ... you can pm if you prefer

Just for your info Dawn, all UK Spec S's have climate control. So that should not be regarded as an "£xtra"

Also worth bearing in mind you can get a brand new MY03 with all its advantages for £38500 odd and say with a few toys of your own chosing £41K odd so that should help you way up if the 2nd hand example is really worth the money or not!

Thanks for that - I didn't realise.

When a car is 30k plus it won't have a whole heap of takers on the 2nd hand market, most prefer to go to a dealer in that range more so with a Porsche ... the tack I would take is to check out what an OPC would charge less 3-5k for the warranty and see if you are talking turkey. I don't like sports seats much and having Bose wouldn't interest me either, odd bits of paint leave me cold too or rather I wouldn't pay extra for them as they are personal.

Decide on your price and reasoning then put it to him, it is his car at this point in time anyway.

Not much help but it is an opinion!

Dawn,

If you bought that car off a forecourt you would pay £31,000 - £33,000. But that would come with a warranty. If I was buying the same car privately I would not go over £30k.

Mind you Cobalt Blue looks the biz. My GT3 is Cobalt Blue. Two of my customers bought Porsches after seeing my car, both went for Cobalt. One bought a 996 Turbo the other a Boxster S, both in COBALT BLUE.

Nice spec car with low miles.....make them an offer!

Dawn - I recommend that before you sign on the dotted line, you seriously think about the 03 MY 2.7 rather than a 02 3.2. The 3.2 is a seriously mouthwatering bit of kit, but having driven both, I would say that the benefits of the MY03 improvements outweigh the 3.2 motor and 6 sp box on a pre facelift car. In doing so, you will get the glass rear window and facelift features which will mean stronger risiduals and the knowledge that you are in the most up to date car.

If budget allows, go for the MY03 3.2, but failing that I'd say the 03 2.7 over a pre facelift 3.2. Just my opinion....

I drove both 2.7 and S before buying an S just over a year ago and it comes down to what you want. I think the 3.2 engine really makes the Boxster. If buying secondhand and you like the colour and spec - go for it, as it may not come up again soon.

i just picked mine up on saturday, got it for a haggled 28250, 19k on the clock, are a few cosmetic to sort out, when re done, coupld of scratchews, but nothing that 500 wont sort out, then it immaculate. This was from a speciallist dealer.

Good hunting if you havent already!
