Evening all, went to fill up today, only to find my local Shell garage had been knoced down....turned round and headed to the next one, driving along and lost power, engine hestitated and the check engine light came on. Pulled over immedietly and switched off...walked to the Shell garage, this one still standing and brought a fuel can/some fuel. Car started and running fine but the check engine emissions light is still on. Dont think I have done any damage to the Cats or anything...so is it safe to drive? Wanted to go down to the coast tomorrow, or do I have to take to OPC to get checked over first??

As long as the CEL isn't flashing you will be OK. It will probably right itself after a few driving cycles (cold-hot-cold). If it is a C4, or post MY2000, reset the system adaption. Switch on the ignition for 60 seconds, but don't start the car or touch the throttle pedal. Then switch it off for at least 10 seconds.

What Richard said, plus if you want to turn the light off, turn the ignition on + disconnect the battery for 20 minutes. That will reset the light.

I also ran out some time ago and panicked when all the lights came on. I too worried about the engine light. However, after a short drive to work and back. The following morning saw the light go off. Total distance driven 12 miles in total.

Hi Devans,
thanks, light has gone out, bit of a panic. However how realised why the reserve light comes on so early, no fast corners with low fuel level...filled up with Shells finest and seems to be going better than ever!
