I have just purchased a 996 C4 from OPC Silverstone. It is fitted with a Cup Aerokit which I was assured was Factory Fit.

After reading another thread I have checked: -

http://www.kindel.com/porsche/options.asp

which does not show an Aerokit code.

Can somebody please tell me if the Aerokit on my vehcile is Factory Fit.

The Option Codes are:-

C16
XRL
236
424
425
436
567
689
696
936
981
983
09991

The chassis number is - wpozzz99z1s600546.

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards

09991 means manufacture from the exclusive-programme, which simply means there were options chosen from the Exclusive Program (XRL being one).

The car doesn't sound like it is mega-spec. I would have thought that it should show the option code for the aerokit as option IXAA AEROKIT CUP. I would also have thought that anyone specifying an aerokit option (which was expensive) would have had a few more toys, like Cruise, OBC, Satnav, or the like. The options list is endless. If you want the complete list of options, email me and I'll attach it to a reply.

I have just spoken to the OPC who have informed me that they have two newer vehicles in stock (both with apparent factory fit aerokits) and neither of them have an option code for aerokits in the handbook.

They also informed me that aerokits are fitted after build in a seperate part of the factory (??). Plus I have been advised that OPC's dont sell vehicles without the proper aerokit. Is this true?

M436 is 3 spoke airbag steering wheel

IXAA is the only option code listed for the Aerokit Cup, which is from the individual list.

Hmmm, So Porsche builds a new car then wheels it off to another shed. Then the front PU and the engine cover are removed along with the electrical connections. Then the aerokit items, which have been painted to match arrive for retro fitting to the car. Then they put discarded items into a skip or recycle to be fitted to the next car of same colour that comes down the assembly line! Porsche don't make £Billion profits by employing those build tactics. There must be some members on this forum who have been on factory visits who can verify these build techniques.
I guess for the moment I do not believe it.

When I did my factory visit, all the options arrived at the build station on the line where they were required. They were very proud of this. The ones I saw being fitted were Exclusive options - a nice steering wheel with yellow stitching to match the exterior colour of the car for example.

I did not see any unusual body parts being fitted on the day I was there, but as they only have one line, which can produce Boxters, 911's (2 and 4wd, coupe and cabrio) plus Turbos, and I assume GT3's and Caymen I cannot see that they would need to fit an Aerokit in a different location.

I think this used to happen pre '97 with the "Special Wishes" department - standard cars were converted in a seperate workshop

Thanks for the replies. But what about OPC's selling vehicles with non OE parts. Does it happen?

I don't think they are allowed to do it, certainly not with aftermarket body additions

Pete

Thanks for all the advice.

I have now had confirmation that the kit was fitted at a later date by OPC Newcastle. So it is all Genuine.

Thats right. But I dont see what recourse I have. I mean I've bought and got the car now.

I dont mean to disrespect any car salesmen on the forum, but I have often found them to be economical with the truth.

I also have problems identifying the option codes:

XLF
342
376
539

Tried the recommended links kindel.com and renlist...No joy

IXLF - Sports Exhaust System
M342 - Seat Heating System left/right seat
M376 - Sport Seat, backrest shell, right
M539 - Mechanical seat height adjustment, left
