Just trying to dry out a puddle behind the driver's seat when I decided to look at the option codes in the boot. All seem to check out but I can't find C48 or D80 on any published list. But I do have a "Sebring" special, whatever that might be. Can't find any code, though, for a water feature on the back floor during heavy rain. Might it be caused by a blocked or disconnected sunroof drain?

yep one of my doors used to do that on the lux. You'd hear a huge amount of water surge up the door the first time you braked and a load of water would shoot out all over the front footwell.
If its the back floor the chances are its leaking from the sunroof seal or the two drain tubes from the sunroof gutter are blocked and back up under heavy downpours. You could get someone to hose the roof and rear hatch area whilst you sat in the car with a sou-westor on

Checked the door which seems quite dry. The sun roof drains work ok but I discovered the petrol filler drain was blocked. I guess this could fill with water in a heavy storm and leak water into the interior. I managed to unblock it with a length of throttle cable so hopefully the problem is cured.

another often overlooked possibility is the rear lights . Might be worth removing and siliconeing into place. You can sometimes get mystery fumes sucked in here when a window is open .
Thinking back to my Lux I never was really convinced that the water actually entered the door I think it actually got trapped at the bottom between the inner threshold seal and the outer door seals on the actual step area.
