Hello everyone

my first post, the standard apologies for the following new-boy inanity.

Am speccing my first Porsche - a C2. Although I have a rare disease that compels me to purchase all cars brand-new, I am never tempted by the options list, other than a Bose stereo, which I've had on two A*dis.

What options should I consider as essential though, in your opinion?

Hi Vernan,
The thing with porkers is underspecifying them can actually loose you money come resale time, but too many goodies & you may as well burn the extra cash ! Best re-sale colours silver & dark blues/black, interior's best black or blue, followed by grey !

1/ 18 inch wheels are a must have

2/ As Julian says the sports chassis (10mm lower) is a must have if you are a press on driver, although for re-sale it doesn't really add value.

3/ Stereo Upgrade, although you have this covered with the Bose, it is good.

4/ I think Sports seats are worth the money & for only about £150 you can have Porsche crests put in the head rests !

5/ The interior can be a bit gloomy & the factory alloy (or carbon) handbrake & gear lever package lifts it nicely..money well spent.

6/ I think PSM traction control is also a well worth addition, nice to have a safety net with 320bhp slung out the back (although standard traction is brilliant) end !

7/ Beyond that it's down to you, I am told by OPC buyers that PCM, porsches sat nav system, is becoming a must have for best re-sale. I would phone a few buyers & ask advice on this. beyond this the only thing that used to aggrovate me was the plastic central tunnel, which I now have in full leather, but I sure that is just personal taste & money burned !!!

MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL DO YOU KNOW THE NEW MODEL 997 is due out next September, if it was me I would order the new one now & be first in the queue !

Thanks, that's very very useful and much appreciated, as I sit here with the frankly bewildering options book this afternoon [:D]

I think the 18s, -10mm and PSM are likely to go to the top of the pile.

Just can't bear the idea of a silver car (despite the 911 looking best in it), the TT is Moro blue and the previous Audi was black, so colour won't be easy.

As for the 997, that's something I've been much exercised by in the last couple of weeks.........but if the spy shots are to be believed, those round headlights - nein danke. I think the 996 is a fantastic looking car, it'll be my first 911 so I won't know any different, so I just want the beavering thing ordered.

Vernan if you are going for the current model, do look at the C4S. I know it's more money BUT it does include 18 inch wheels, PSM & sports chassis as standard (plus uprated brakes, 4wd, Turbo body & other goodies) it's the best model for re-sale at the moment. have you checked it out ???
Porsche offer a good choice of different shades of blue Zenith, Lapis, Cobolt, Iris etc etc etc. All you need to do is pop down to your OPC & have a look around the showroom, customer cars etc, to see what they look like in the flesh.

Grant

yes, have considered it but I don't go on the turbo-lite look. I'm also completely sold on the "basic" Carrera's looks

I have a certain (semi-)4WD coupe at the moment which has irritated me with its competence, and while I don't believe a C4 would be comparable, I have convinced myself that I would like a proper RWD this time around. HoweverI may now ask for a C4 test drive to make sure

Cheers

Must have's:
18" (just look great)
SatNav (too busy to read a map)
Crusie (seriously - its a license saver on motorways!!)
Xenon headlights (see your way home when SatNav gets you lost)
Tiptronic

personally not turned on by the aluminium cigarette lighter hand crafted by a Tibetan monk but whatever...

Jeff - A bit off thread, but just viewed your web page/es. Great work, thought I found piccies of my car at Eynsham, but alas not! Will upload to your readers section - if you don't mind?
Yours one very proud 993-4S - complete with Turbo S body kit[:D]

Thanks everyone.

Have decided on 18's, PSM, Bose, xenons and large leather kit. Colour will wait til I've seen a few in the flesh as recommended

Now just have to wait and try not to damage the TT

Sorry - joining this thread late. My 2p.

1. Agree that only Turbos should be admitted to widebody club
2. I like C4 - feels more anchored on wet road - and comes with PSM as standard
3. Leather bits and bobs - can you really tell the difference?
4. Nobody has mentioned sports exhaust - a must.
5. 18" Sport Techs
6. Who need Bose when you can listen to 4 above?
7. Sat Nav is pretty important for resale, I am told.
8. Sport suspension - can't stand the standard gap between the tyre and rear arch
9. Would wait for a year's production of 997 before buying.
10 colour - midnight blue, with painted wheels and cinnamon trim.
