OPTIONS

Hi all just started looking at second hand Cayennes up to 07 ish age. I am familiar with PASM, SPORTS CHRONO etc on other Porsche models, but I am unsure about the Cayennes. I see some have air suspension, PASM, sunroofs etc, where can I look to see what was an option and what it all means, such as the air suspension.

Thanks all.

Stephen.

When I was looking for my Cayenne I found that most of the features that I wanted were options and there are some particularly strangely specced cars out there. In my opinion the nice options to have are: Sunroof or Panoramic roof Roof rails (though don't think you can have these with a panoramic roof) Leather dashboard, I think that these may be called extended leather and includes leather steering wheel and airbag. Air suspension, giving adjustable ride height and adjustable damper settings (normal, sport and comfort) Xenon headlights Bose sound system Satellite Navigation (PCM) including phone module Electric or Electric memory seats Electrically adjustable steering column Heated seats Rear heated seats Rear climate control (I think that option will include heated seats too)

Hi Stephen, here are a few thoughts which may (or may not) be helpful; Air suspension v steel. Apart from the obvious ability to raise and lower the car and perform weird tricks on three wheels at the proving ground, IMO the air is worth the extra. The ride is significantly better , gives you the choice to have a sporty setting, lowering and firming the ride in Sport mode for better handling, and is also much better for rear seat passengers, if you regularly carry them, as the steel sprung cars are rather bouncy in the back. Sunroof is excellent, with sliding blind and tip tilt feature. The panoramic one is the best I've experienced, on my new car. Multifunction steering wheel is similar to the 997 pdk, but a must have IMO. Works with 'phone, system checks, sound system, satnav etc. Satnav similar to the 997 version. I would look out for the space saver spare wheel option - the first gen Cayenne used the spare wheel area for the Bose bass box, but the facelift model gives you both - but it was an option. Speaking of Bose, a big improvement on the standard system. Cruise control essential but can be retrofitted I believe. Heated seats a matter of preference, but the sports seats are a rarity. If you need a tow bar there was an electric option as well as a detachable one. Roof bars and rails were options too. Often available on ebay. Talking of which, secondhand sets of wheels are easily purchased, so winter tyres become a sensible option if you have storage room. Leather was an option on dashboard and doors etc at vast cost. Nice to have though (I'm too mean to spec it myself). As far as engine size, the V8 is much better all round, and the V8 cars tended to have a higher spec of options when new than the V6 which was underpowered and no more economical than the V8 (about 20mpg in the real world). The GTS or the Turbo on the other hand.......

Regards cruise control, this is an relatively easy and inexpensive retrofit, the kit can be bought at the OPC for several hundreds, however I managed to get my new stalk from ebay and the whole mod fitted cost me about £100. Regards engine choice, I didn't think that I would be too bothered about this as it was a family car and so went for one with the highest spec available at the time, which happened to be a 3.2 V6. However, with hindsight I am missing the power that the V8's bring, as my last car was a V8 Mercedes, so my next Cayenne will definitely need to be a V8.
