Just ordered a 981 Cayman last Saturday for Nov build. [:(]
I added the bits that I thought where 'missing' from my 987. and removed sport chrono, as the now standard sport button is enough for me.

Spec :
Racing Yellow
Luxor Beige Full Leather
18" Cayman Alloys
PDK
Sportdesign Steering Wheel
Sports Exhaust
Heated Seats
Park Assist Rear
auto aircon
PCM inc prep for phone, and online services.

Having driven all 3 models at the porsche experience centre, i just couldn't justify the extra costs both purchase and running for a daily driver doing around 20k per year.
Comments welcome.

Currently looking to PX the 987, any views on if it's worth trying to sell via here. Not really interested in dealing with the wider public at large [;)]

Sounds like a tidy spec for an everyday car Jon. I would have thought that since you're in the car so much of the time you might have chosen the PDLS (a significant improvement over the halogen units) and have gone for a Sound Package Plus upgrade on the standard sound sytem. Good luck. Jeff

Think you have the bases covered for a daily driver. Colour is highly personal - I think speed yellow looks great on the Cayman. I personally wouldn't choose a beige interior with it but if you like it, go for it. I have done 5k miles in mine since May. I don't really miss the sports exhaust that my 987 had the vast majority of the time. Mine has, and I do like full leather interior, sports seats plus and sound system plus (which in itself is right at the lower end of what I deem acceptable in a new Porsche). I find the standard headlights fine but don't actually drive mine that much at night. I also love cruise control for long motorway 50 limits if nothing else and it is twice as dear to retro-fit than order new if you change your mind. I would also choose magic wipers given the choice, the technology works well in my BMW and the intermittent setting is a bit fiddly on the Cayman. My only other observation would be, if it's not too late, just to double check there isn't a stock car available to float your boat with discount? I chose a lightly used S over a new non S but I do see the appeal. There were some lovely cars in the system though back in May - funnily enough one I quite fancied had the beige interior at Chester.

thanks both. I did a good search round for stock and pre stock cars, nothing really suitable. There was a Cayman in yellow, but with Ă‚ÂŁ20k worth of extras! Actually I have sound package plus, you need so spec at least that with the PCM. Good point re PDLS, will have a think about that, as for 6 months of the year i will be commuting in the dark. I am also now in two minds whether to go for black /luxor two tone leather. I am also going to junk the online services, as the aha-radio app didn't impress me, and i plug my ipod into the PCM rather than my iphone. J

At least you get the unrivalled joy of having your own car built to your personal spec. Even if you have to wait for it! Great car to put miles on.

Hi Jon Great choice of exterior colour, not that I am biased of course [:D]. My own Racing Yellow Cayman gets so many admiring remarks it gets embarrassing at times. I agree with Rob regarding the interior colour as beige and yellow don't work for me either. Seeing one in the flesh may change my mind of course. Maybe when you come to sell in years to come you may find it hard to move on. My own car has a black partial leather interior together with the colour coded exterior bar across the dash board. Looks great and partly retro too. You definitely need cruise control for those long journeys and it also helps keep strictly within speed limits too. I would certainly try and go for the 20" wheel option too as this makes the car sit so much better and fills the wheel arches too. There is also no need to use a cable with your phone as mine connects via Bluetooth and I can select any track I have stored - more accurately my wife can as I prefer Radio 4 on Long journeys on my own. I know it boring for some but I am no spring chicken! What I am really impressed with is the MPG. Staying at speeds that I cannot repeat here, on cruise, I can get over 38 mpg. If I stayed at 70 then I expect it would be well over 40 mpg. The car drives like a dream. Whatever options you decide you will have miles of smiles and some dam good fun too.[&o][:D]

Jon, Just to add that I'd agree with Rob's recommendation for cruise control. With so many speed restrictions and cameras about these days, I can't understand why it's not a standard feature on all cars. I wouldn't be without it on my 987 and use it all the time - almost like a hand-throttle. Jeff

ORIGINAL: Motorhead cruise control,............. I can't understand why it's not a standard feature on all cars.
Apparently its standard fit on Macan with build dates from 1 September 2014 and according to the website, also standard on Cayenne. David

Jeff Who knows? I don't and I have cruise on the Cayman and will have on the Macan. Maybe you'd better ask Reading or Stuttgart? David

Jon, If it was my spec I would ditch the sports exhaust (and heated seats) the 981's is much more sporty than the 987 and put the cost into 20 inch wheels, sports seats plus, cruise and the PDLS lights as others have said. Also the black interior contrasts the yellow very well. Im sure you'll love it.

That colour-coded exterior bar across the dashboard looks good Peter - really lightens the dark interior. Like yourself and others I'm not a fan of beige so, hopefully, Jon will take note and opt for something similar but it's very much a personal choice. I also think that the 20" wheels make for a much more purposeful look but matching what Jon's prepared to pay for the car with the options list is always going to be a challenge. Jeff

Thanks again. As has been said, I need to prioritise options, great to have all the opinions, but I /can't have them all! re cruise control, I've had it on previous cars with the same use pattern, and really didn't use it much myself. 20" wheels look great, but the reason i have personally not gone for them is harsh ride (I don't want to have PASM), and 25%+ extra cost in tyres. PDLS i think I am sold. I think I will also upgrade to Bose speakers, as I will spend many hours listening to it. It IS personal but i like the beige / yellow combo, but after a conflab with the other half, and reading concerns about reflection of the beige dash in the windscreen, I will go for beige / black two tone. Also gone for coloured wheel caps (back in 2011 i got those free, some upsides to a rescession!). I think that's it now!. new images. exterior.

If we all wanted the same Porsche wouldn't need the options list! Ride with 20" wheels is very good even without PASM, it is amazing really. On standard suspension even they still look a little lost to be honest, there is still a noticeable gap. Aesthetically the 18s will look small but on the plus side, it will be really great to drive.

I think that the beige/black combination works well Jon and, as you say, will prevent reflections in the screen. As for the PDLS, I spec'd it for my 987.2 and haven't been disappointed. Great for A/B road night driving as the lights point where you're heading rather than directly in front - much more intuitive, a great safety feature and certainly not a gimmick. Jeff
