Ordered Cayman 718s Graphite Blue

Hi,

Locked down the order on my Cayman S, deposit placed early May and scheduled delivery for early December- can't wait.

Not quite my first Porsche, had a 944S2 in mid 90's but the arrival of a child meant that it had to go. Always wanted a Cayman so really looking forward to taking delivery.

Has been an interesting time to buy due to the changeover from NA to turbo engines. Have driven 981, 718 Boxster S PDK, 718 Boxster manual and 718 Cayman manual before going for 718s PDK. None had the sports exhaust so not sure how it will sound- obviously nowhere near as good as 981 but as an overall package the 718 is a much better car(in my opinion) as it has more power and massively more torque which makes the performance more usable/fun more of the time.
Initially there was a bit of hysteria by the motoring press mainly by autocar/auto express who seemed to regard a 4 cylinder turbo engine as the 'devils work' and saying how it had ruined the car. I think that people should drive the car and form their own opinion rather than be led by motoring journo's who don't actually buy and drive these cars on a daily basis. The recent reviews have been more measured. No doubt this debate will run and run!

I completely agree with your comments. The new 718 Cayman S is a significant upgrade from the previous 987.2 and 981 models........in every department, part from the number of cylinders turning the crank. It will be my 4th Cayman, all have been manual up to now, decided on PDK this time as at long last Porsche have configured it for motor sport (now retired) drivers such as I.

Sold my CR manual in June, so looking forward to returning to precision Porsche driving. I have high expectations coming from an "R".

I'm sure the 718 CS PDK in the spec I have chosen will not disappoint.

My spec order also locked down as below for a Graphite Blue 718 Cayman S PDK. Delivery due December 2016.

That looks like a great spec Brian.

I'm also in agreement with DD and with your comments elsewhere. Too many n/a engine luddites around perhaps? - it's important to embrace change when necessary, and inevitable in the face of ever increasing restrictions on emissions. If people are complaining now, I dread to think what will happen when Porsche introduces hybridisation into the sports car mix..!

We ran a Cayman S Tip for many years and recently, after an agonising choice between Boxster and Cayman, opted for a 718 Boxster S PDK.

Regrets? None! Great car.

I'm sure the 718 Caymans will be too.

Having driven all N/A Cayman models I may differ on some points of peoples opinions, my 987.2 with PASM, PDK, Chrono etc felt every bit as good on leaving PEC after driving the 981S and it fits into my garage easier. Each model has a good following and while the 718 is effectively a facelift 981 on the outside, the new engine and turbo will give an interesting development which I look forward to driving at some point, ok some say that they don't like the sound but given gearing is close if not identical to the 981 it will sound slower as in the 4 instead of 6 pot rhythm and the howl may be less evident but knowing Porsche it will sound damn good compared to anything else around, it has greater torque and BHP so performance will win over sound and it will no doubt be as good as the 918 in all other respects. Having had a 944 turbo some years ago and loved the way the power came in I know that the Cayman S turbo will be a terrific drive, my one thing I dislike with the direction that Porsche development has been progressing of late is that the cars are getting larger, they're sports cars and should not get too big.
