"orf with his head..."!

Well, tomorrow is D-day (as in "Don't think about the cost nor what they might find"[8|]) when my turbo goes in to have its head removed so that the snapped exhaust stud may be removed (along with its brothers). I have attached a piccy of the offending missing stud (as it were[8|]) so that you may share in my pain![:D]

I am intending taking a few pics once the head is off, unless of course I find anything unpalatable, in which case the last pic will be of the underneath of the Thelwall Viaduct....[8|][:D][:D]

All together now.... "Everything will be fine, everything will be fine, everything will be fine....[8|][:D]"

Why am still unable to get big pics into the posts, despite pasting the url into the appropriate box - must be doing something wrong...[8|]

we can see all your pics when you click on the image though...

Good job there's nothing dodgy in there... (except a pic of Boxseys 911[;)])

All together now...

"You wanna get one of them S2 jobbies...."[:D][:D][:D]

I'll get your coat as well at the same time if you like ....

Update!

Through mechanical savvy and further thought Jonny has managed to get the broken stud removed (had to drill it out and put an insert in) by removing the cam box and both exhaust manifolds, which created enough room for a right angled drill etc.

It would appear that the manifold had been blowing at that point after all, which could be seen once the manifolds and gaskets were removed, but not obvious when all in situ.

As the head is now not coming off, a) the car should now be ready for the Oulton Park race meeting this Saturday, b) I'm spending some of the money I've saved, by getting the injectors cleaned and tested and c) I'm hoping that by eliminating the slight exhaust leak, it should come on boost slightly earlier and harder too...![:D]

So I have ordered a VDO boost gauge from Promax to ensure that I am not exceeding 1 bar'ish once it is all back together.

Good, gload to hear it.

Note the date to celebrate next year - it's pretty unusual that a garage bill comes out cheaper than expected ... !

Oli.

Ah now you've done it - you've tempted fate and the car's not back together yet and neither is the final bill....[8|][:D][:D]

Oopps, sorry!

I'll remove my earlier post if it helps ...

ETA: Original post deleted. Your bill will now be so miniscule you'll need a large magnifying glass to see it. (As opposed to the usual - the numbers being written minisculy small to fit all of them in the box at the bottom ... )

Phew! Thats good work by that garage! Which indie was it BTW? They saved you a LOT of money in labour [:)]

Unit 11 in Warrington - Jonny Holland is a top bloke and what he doesn't know about aircooled 911s (and the new water cooled things too...[;)]) is probably not worth knowing. Used to prepare a racing 944 Turbo too, which is handy[:D].

Really friendly bunch with great attention to detail and real engineering depth.

No affiliation blah blah blah etc![:D]

Well I got it back tonight and from the short hop up the Motorway from Unit 11, the boost certainly appears to come in slightly earlier, which I guess you'd expect if some of those exhaust gasses are no longer escaping before getting to the turbo?![:D]

I haven't pushed it yet as i am now concerned that the boost levels might now be too high and am awaiting my new Boost gauge arriving before i test the envelope...[:)][8|]

Off to Oulton park on Saturday to warm it up....[:D]
