Original Prices for 1997 993 C2 / C2S

Okay, you thought you had it bad in the UK - well listen to this.

The Greek Government has an illegal registration tax for any car brought into Greece and registered here to drive locally. You can drive here for six months but after that you must remove the car for a further six months or pay an extortionate fine or, in the worst case, the car will be impounded and you can go to jail!!

The registration tax is an eye watering twenty percent - yes 20% - of the original purchase price.

My question is, does anyone on here know how to find out what the original purchase price of a 1997 993 C2S was and also what the original price of the 1997 C2 was? A base price with as few options as possible would be preferable.

The Greeks are not immune to the credit crunch and up until July 7th 2009 they've reduced this illegal tax to 10% of the original purchase price which - in a perverse way - makes it quite attractive to pay now, rather than risk not paying it and losing the car!!!

Anyone have the original prices or knows a URL where they can be found?

Cheers,

Jon

Try to get a German price list Jon as, unlike for example the UK, they tend to list their cars with very few options, leaving it up to the purchaser to decide whether he or she wants things like rear wash wipers.

I have a German RRP from 1995 if that's any use?

Clyde,

If you could send me the German RRP that would be great. I need as much ammo as possible when I sit down with the customs people over here.

Cheers,

Jon

I have quite a collection of car magazines, according to CAR magazine April 1997

Porsche 993 C2 ----- £61,250
Porsche 993 C2S ----£65,450
Porsche 993 C4 ----- £64,450
Porsche 993 C4S ----£76,450
Turbo----------------- £97,950

Obviously these are basic prices before extras.

Comparing with the '95 price list, I suspect those prices include car-tax and VAT - Hopefully Jon's Greek tax is 10% (ouch) of the pre-tax price.

Thanks Guys,

I'm going to get my lawyer to approach the customs officials across here and see what kind of money they're going to want from me. Everyone says the size of tax depends on the particular official, his or her mood mood, your face, whether you're local or foreign etc. In other words, how very Greek.

Jon

ps but then again, and as the Greek Embassy in London told me some years ago, is that not why you want to move there!!!
