My sons 19 year old friend (into Minis in a big way) posted me this thread re Dolphin culling in Japan.

If you view the video be prepared..............it is appalling needless slaughter

I have signed the petition.

Its actually made me consider selling the Landcruiser (although typically tomorrow I`ll forget and not sell it [])

There was a picture in the newspaper yesterday of some b@$7@28 slaughtering them, Its a disgrace ! Will definately sign the petition and will pass on the link.

Not for the feint hearted. Even if you don't object to eating Dolphin meat the way they brutally despatch the poor blighters is simply a discgrace. I can't believe these people belong to the same humankind as us.

Saw this item on tv...an absolute disgrace in this day and age that something like this is allowed to be got away with[][][:'(][:'(]

How can those b%^%^%s call this f^^*&^g act is for "scientific research purpose" [:'(]. A complete disgrace [&o][&o][&o][&o][&o].

They may have the money to bribe the poorer countries to vote for them but everyone with a conscience can see that this is a complete lie lie lie.

This may explain why the Japanese never admitted their crime committed in China during the WWII (killing 300,000 people in Nanking in a week) and have omitted their evil works from their school history books. What a sad world that we are living in

While I appreciate that fishing involves the killing of fish (not that dolphins are fish). when you consider how intelligent dolphins are, the pain and trauma of their last hours is outrageous.

All races have different cultural backgrounds, and upbringings, which can make cross cultural understanding difficult. One only has to read reports of the Japanese treatment of POW's, and see horrific images such as this video, to understand that their perception of humanity, or at least behaving humanely in our sense of the word, is seemingly poles apart. I was going to use the term morality but my perception of Japanese culture is that their tendency to honour-sty is far greater than that of the Western world.

Obviously, the perception of being humane changes over the years. As a nation we thought it a damn cunning plan to hang drawer and quarter people, and have swept a good number of our own atrocities under the carpet - but (I would hope) we have moved on from that. I regret that my perception of Japanese culture is that complaints against such barbarism, as seen in this video, will be treated with the same disdain as people complaining about abattoirs in the UK.

I thank and applaud Paul for bringing this link to our attention. I have signed, and encourage the signing of this petition. However, what I have tried to say above is, while we might consider such actions barbaric others may not. I appreciate that this is a very emotive subject, but please refrain from using, or inferring, obscenities - we should be above that.

I signed too - I don't usually because my policy has been that you need to just put a lot of this stuff out of your mind and carry on otherwise your life would be entirely spent trying to right wrongs you simply have no responsibillity for.

In this case it was extreme though. I agree with what I think Scott is suggesting above - eat Dolphin if you want to and it doesn't really bother me that much, but if you're going to do it then catch and kill them in the most sympathetic way possible. It's hard to imagine how the process could be any less sympathetic to the animals than what is shown in that video.
