While I appreciate that fishing involves the killing of fish (not that dolphins are fish). when you consider how intelligent dolphins are, the pain and trauma of their last hours is outrageous.
All races have different cultural backgrounds, and upbringings, which can make cross cultural understanding difficult. One only has to read reports of the Japanese treatment of POW's, and see horrific images such as this video, to understand that their perception of humanity, or at least behaving humanely in our sense of the word, is seemingly poles apart. I was going to use the term morality but my perception of Japanese culture is that their tendency to honour-sty is far greater than that of the Western world.
Obviously, the perception of being humane changes over the years. As a nation we thought it a damn cunning plan to hang drawer and quarter people, and have swept a good number of our own atrocities under the carpet - but (I would hope) we have moved on from that. I regret that my perception of Japanese culture is that complaints against such barbarism, as seen in this video, will be treated with the same disdain as people complaining about abattoirs in the UK.
I thank and applaud Paul for bringing this link to our attention. I have signed, and encourage the signing of this petition. However, what I have tried to say above is, while we might consider such actions barbaric others may not. I appreciate that this is a very emotive subject, but please refrain from using, or inferring, obscenities - we should be above that.
